CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis program is set to host matches Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11 at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. The Golden Eagles will host the University of Minnesota Morris in a non-conference match Friday at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, UMN Crookston will host Bemidji State University in a conference match at 10:30 a.m.
The Golden Eagles defeated Bemidji State 4-3 Thursday, February 2 in Bemidji, Minn. The win was Minnesota Crookston's first win over an NSIC foe since 2014. It was their first win over Bemidji State since 2013. The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 1-1 mark. Bemidji State is 1-4 this season, while Minnesota Morris opens the season on Saturday. The Cougars went 5-7 last season.
Madeleine Schneider (So., Gartringen, Germany) comes in with a 2-0 mark at the No. 1 singles slot.
Blaike Zander (So., Mandan, N.D.) and
Kavya Singh (So., Agra, India) are 1-1 at No. 1 doubles. Schneider and
Sarah Velasquez (Sr., Chino, Calif.) are 1-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Minnesota Morris is led by Kiley Rodarmel, who went 2-8 at No. 1 singles in 2022. In addition, they return Kate Obright, who was 6-3 at the No. 2 slot in 2022. In doubles, Rodarmel and Obright went 4-7 at the No. 1 doubles spot in 2022.
Bemidji State is guided by Blanca Lopez-Oro, who is 3-2 at the No. 1 singles spot. Nicoleta Anestiadi is 4-1 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles this season. In doubles, Laura Burger and Lopez-Oro are 1-2 at No. 1 doubles. Lopez-Oro and Anestiadi are 0-2 at No. 1 doubles.
