Minnesota Crookston Baseball Set for Four-Game Series with Tritons

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team will continue the 2023 season on the road in the Show Me State as they take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis in a four-game series February 24-26 at UMSL Baseball Field in St. Louis, Mo.

The Golden Eagles come into the weekend with a 1-3 mark after opening February 11-12 at Hawai'i Pacific University. Missouri-St. Louis enters the weekend with a 2-6 mark. The Tritons are in their first year under the leadership of Scott Eul, a familiar opponent of Steve Gust and Minnesota Crookston. Eul was the coach at Minot State University from 2017-22.

Minnesota Crookston had a strong first weekend at the plate as they hit .345 as a team, with 38 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, 6 home runs, and 33 RBIs. Caden Headlee had a strong debut for the Golden Eagles. He hit .556, with five runs scored, and four RBIs. Fellow Bismarck State College transfer Mike Hallquist also made a strong impression in week one, batting .500, with three runs scored, one home runs, and five RBIs. Returnee Ben Goelz hit .368 in four games, with three runs scored, one home run, and a team-high nine RBIs. Sawyer Satrom made a strong indent on the games, hitting .308, with two runs scored, and three RBIs.

On the mound, Minnesota Crookston played in some high scoring affairs. They have a 9.38 ERA in 31.2 innings pitched, with 23 strikeouts, and 20 walks. Josh Dykhoff stepped in and got his first career win. He is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three innings of work. Alex Koep picked up where he was last year, tossing 3.2 innings or scoreless baseball. Nate Grafsgaard had a strong debut for UMN Crookston, tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless ball.
