Box Score WAIPAHU, Hawai'i - The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team scored 21 runs in a slugfest in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Hawai'i Pacific University Sharks. Minnesota Crookston edged Hawai'i Pacific 21-13. A combined 34 runs were scored in the game. The Golden Eagles have not scored over 20 runs since a 23-6 victory over Bemidji State University March 6, 2021.
Minnesota Crookston improved to 1-2 with the win, while the Sharks fell to 2-1.
The Golden Eagles have three players with four RBI games in the first tilt. Caden Headlee (Jr., OF, Fargo, N.D.), went 4-of-6 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Ben Goelz (Jr., OF, Maple Lake, Minn.) finished 3-of-7 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Mike Hallquist (Jr., 3B, Fargo, N.D.) finished 3-of-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Sawyer Satrom (R-Fr., IF, Portland, N.D.) also had a strong game, going 2-of-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Josh Dykhoff (Fr., RHP/1B, Wadena, Minn.) picked up his first win of his career, and it came in relief. Dykhoff went three innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit. He struck out three, and walked nobody. Isaac Wensloff (Fr., RHP, Roseau, Minn.) made his collegiate debut, going 1.2 innings and allowing one run on five hits. Tad Scherbenske (R-So., RHP, Rapid City, S.D.) went 2.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Jakob Wiirre (Sr., RHP, Mims, Fla.) went 0.1 innings, allowing no runs on no hits.
The loss for the Sharks went to Dylan Honda, who allowed three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings. Hawai'i Pacific was led at the dish by Tejean Smith, who went 3-of-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Minnesota Crookston had crucial innings in the seventh and the eighth stanza. The Golden Eagles were propelled in the seventh by Hallquist, who had a three-run home run, plating himself, Headlee, and Mitch Goodwin (Jr., SS, Prior Lake, Minn.). In the eighth, Jake Hjelle (R-Jr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) had a two RBI single to drive in Goelz and Headlee.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up the series with game two of the doubleheader played late on Sunday evening in Waipahu, Hawai'i.
