Sartell, Minn. - The Golden Eagles came into today's matchup with the Johnnies having won last night 4-2. This afternoon's battle in net was between Leo Troje for the Johnnies and Adam Goody (Fr., G, Airdrie, Alberta) who was starting in his sixth game.
Anthony Foster (Fr., F, Warroad, Minn.) got things started just nine minutes in as Logan Syrup (Jr., F, Park River, N.D.) found him for his eighth goal of the season and his 28th point. Logan Syrup followed that goal closely with one of his own just two minutes later and the Golden Eagles were up 2-0 in a hurry. Nathan Ayotte (Fr., F, St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba) continued his red hot weekend with his third goal of the series with just under three to play in the first period. The Golden Eagles headed into the second frame up leading 3-0.
The Johnnies would add a goal of their own with a goal by Noah Hermanson to make it 3-1. Brendan Hemr would bring it within one with the second consecutive Johnnies goal. But Nathan Ayotte was not done after his late first period goal, he would add another tally just under 11 minutes into the second period and extend the Golden Eagles lead back to two. Shortly after, Fox Dodds (Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) would add to the growing lead with a goal of his own. The Golden Eagles were on fire as they went into the final frame with a 5-2 lead.
Just over a minute into the third period, Nathan Ayotte kept the good times rolling as he scored a hat trick and his fifth goal of the game. Gunner Ferrier (Sr., D, Baudette, Minn.) scored his first goal of the season to make it a 7-2 lead. But the Golden Eagles were not quite done. Dylan Borseth (R-Sr., F, Williston, N.D.) would add a goal of his own to the high scoring afternoon. Logan Syrup would then score his second goal of the game on an assist from Anthony Foster, as the roles reversed from the first goal of the game. The Golden Eagles would take this one 9-2 and have now won six straight games.
The Golden Eagles are back on Friday, December 8th when they face off against Dakota College at Bottineau in Bottineau, N.D.
