Minnesota Crookston Soccer Falls 5-0 at Concordia-St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 4-0 to Concordia University-St. Paul Sunday, October 29 at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. The Golden Bears scored three goals in the first half, including a goal in the first four minutes of Sunday's tilt. Minnesota Crookston generated more chances in the second half, and limited the Golden Bears to two goals, only allowing one for the first 40 minutes of the stanza. 

The Golden Bears improved to 8-6-3 (6-4-3 NSIC) with the win. The Golden Eagles dropped to 0-17-0 (0-12-0 NSIC) with Sunday's result.

Minnesota Crookston was guided by two shots from Brooklyn Fischbach (Jr., F, South St. Paul, Minn.). Concordia-St. Paul scored one goal and two assists from Sophie Pawlyshyn. Katie Anderson notched two goals. 

In goal, Abby Olsen (Sr., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) notched 14 saves, and allowed five goals. For Concordia-St. Paul, Jessi Jordan, Sydney Potter, and Kayla Matuzak all combined for a clean sheet.

The Golden Bears finished with 37 shots, 19 of those on frame. Minnesota Crookston notched three shots Sunday.

Concordia-St. Paul scored quickly in Sunday's tilt, as Katie Anderson found the back of the net off a free kick, with the assist to Sophie Pawlyshyn in the fourth minute.

The Golden Bears widened the gap to 2-0 in the 18th minute with a scrum for the ball in front of the net. Brittany Bordson scored, with helpers from Tori Miller, and Pawlyshyn.

Minnesota Crookston looked to create in the 24th minute as Brooklyn Fischbach (Jr., F, South St. Paul, Minn.) found a gap in the defense. Her shot was blocked but forced a corner. Unfortunately Greta Saylor's (Jr., MF, New Brighton, Minn.) corner played long and Concordia-St. Paul was able to get it out of the box. 

Concordia-St. Paul extended their lead to 3-0 in the 34th minute with a great ball from Amaya O'Hearn off a great pass from Clare Snapko. 

The Golden Bears widened the gap to 4-0 in the 63rd minute when Pawlyshyn scored.

Minnesota Crookston threatened in the 69th minute with a corner kick. The ball was played right near the line, but the Golden Bears were able to clear it out of the box. 

The Golden Eagles had another great opportunity after a free kick from Madison Lein (Fr., D, Bismarck, N.D.) bounced in the box. Britney Le (So., MF/F, Lincoln, Neb.)  got a foot on it but played it wide. 

 

Concordia-St. Paul pushed their lead to 5-0 with a goal in the 86th minute, Anderson's second of the game. The assist came from Abby Kloiber. 

 

Minnesota Crookston wraps up the 2023 season Thursday, November 2 at 2 p.m., against St. Cloud State University.
