Minnesota Crookston Tennis Announces Second Signee from Spain

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team announced the signing of Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Filipenses Sagrado Corazon de Jesus). De Lucas Rivera joins fellow Spaniard Ariadna Solis Guals (Santpedor, Spain/IES D'Auro), who will also begin her collegiate career in the fall of 2023.

"We are excited to welcome Daniela to the Golden Eagle Family," said Head Coach Josh Lunak. "She is a nationally ranked player from Spain who will bring great experience to our squad next year. She will be a great addition to our team and university next year."

De Lucas Rivera, along with Solis Guals, will look to continue to help elevate the Golden Eagles in a positive trajectory heading into the 2024 season. UMN Crookston finished with a 2-12 mark, picking up their first two wins as a program since March of 2014. UMN Crookston was lifted by the play of Madeleine Schneider, who went 7-7 at No. 1 singles tying for the most singles wins in program history. Minnesota Crookston returns seven players from the 2022 squad including Schneider. Tasha Achermann (Jr., Motley, Minn.) went 3-11 at No. 4 singles in 2022. Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) posted a 6-2 mark at No. 6 singles in 2022. Samantha GutierrezKaydance HinnMichelle Swyter, and Sarah Velasquez all also return to the court for UMN Crookston. In addition, UMN Crookston has added West Liberty University transfer Kavya Singh and Blaike Zander, a former All-State performer at Bismarck Century H.S., who transfers from University of North Dakota where she was previously a student.

The student-athlete listed as having signed a National Letter of Intent or Offer of Admission to play women's tennis at the University of Minnesota Crookston have been verified by the Minnesota Crookston compliance office once they sign the National Letter of Intent or once the student-athlete has accepted an Offer of Admission for Minnesota Crookston.

She started playing tennis at seven years old. De Lucas Rivera has competed in Spanish Championships with her tennis club. She has also participated in prestigious national tournaments, such as the Mutua Madrid Open and the Rafa Nadal Tour. She currently trains every day and competes every weekend, both in team competition and as an individual.

She is the daughter of Manuel de Lucas Blas and Virginia Rivera Moreno.
