Aamold with Strong Performance against UMary, but Golden Eagles Fall 1-0 to Nation's Top-Ranked Team

MANDAN, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston hockey team, ranked 19th in the nation, went toe-to-toe with two-time defending National Champion University of Mary, ranked first in the nation, but they fell 1-0. The lone goal in the game came off a power play in the 13th minute of the first period when Caleb Petrie scored off assists from Alex Flicek and Isaiah Thomas.

Minnesota Crookston dropped to 16-3 (10-2 WCCHA) with Monday's loss at the Schwan Cadillac Rink in Mandan, N.D. UMary improved to 27-4-1 with the victory. The Marauders lead the all-time series 5-0.

Jared Aamold (So., G, Breckenridge, Minn.) and Kyle Hayden were the story of the game, as they were both crucial in between the pipes. Aamold allowed one goal, and had 31 saves in 59:01 for the Golden Eagles. Hayden put up a clean sheet in a full 60 minutes. Hayden made 25 saves for the Marauders.

UMary went 1-of-1 on the power play, while the Golden Eagles were 0-of-4. The two teams will meet again March 3 and 4 at the Crookston Sports Center.

Minnesota Crookston returns to the ice next weekend against the University of Minnesota Duluth.
