Minnesota State Uses Huge Second Half for Win at Minnesota Crookston

Crookston, Minn. – No. 11/20 Minnesota State had six players in double-figures, while also forcing 34 Golden Eagle turnovers, cruising to an 85-50 win on Friday night in Crookston.

The Golden Eagles end their five-game winning streak and move to 8-9 (7-4 NSIC), while the Mavericks improve to 13-2 (9-2 NSIC).

Alex Page (So., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) would tie things up at two with a pair of free throws, but the Mavericks would score the next eight for a 10-2 lead.

Minnesota Crookston would fight back and put a little scare in the Mavs. Natalie Mikrot (Fr., G, Willow River, Minn.) would cash in on a three, Lily Orazem (So., G, Onamia, Minn.) would finish through contact and Emma Miller (Fr., G, Albertville, Minn.) would bury a top of the key three for a 16-14 lead, forcing an MSU timeout.

The first quarter would end with the Mavericks leading by three at 23-20.

MSU would eventually take a 13-point lead, but a pair of Miller floaters would give the Golden Eagles a 6-0 run, cutting the lead to just seven.

Minnesota Crookston would get to within as little as five in the second quarter, but the Mavericks would take a seven point lead into halftime.

The second half would be all Mavericks, who would outscore the Golden Eagles, 45-17, for their 35 point victory.

Miller finished with her ninth straight double-digit game, scoring 14 points on 5-9 shooting from the field. Page added 10 points, while Janie Tormanen (Fr., F, Menahga, Minn.) poured in seven points off the bench.
