HOUGHTON, Mich. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team hung with Michigan Technological University for 90 minutes, but fell 1-0 to the Huskies Friday, September 2 at Sherman Field in Houghton, Mich. A goal in the 44
th minute from Kiersen Korienek off an Anna Syracuse assist proved to be enough for the 1-0 victory for Michigan Tech.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-1 with Friday's loss, while the Huskies improve to 2-1. The Golden Eagles improved by leaps and bounds from last year against the Huskies, as they fell 8-0 in Crookston last season.
The key for both teams was defense.
Kathryn Brainerd (Sr., GK, Corcoran, Minn.) put away nine saves on the night, allowing just one goal. She faced 22 shots, with 10 shots on goal. Michigan Tech limited the Golden Eagles to just two chances, one on goal. Gracie VanLangevelde picked up the clean sheet in goal with one save in 90 minutes.
