SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 17 Augustana University Saturday, April 2 at Greatlife Woodlake Athletic Club in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 2-10 (0-9 NSIC) with the loss. Augustana improved to 15-1 (8-0 NSIC) with Saturday's victory.
In doubles, at the No. 1 slot
Madeleine Schneider (So., Gartringen, Germany) and
Sarah Velasquez (So., Chino, Calif.) took two games, but fell 6-2 to Florentia Hadjigeorgiou and Aleksandra Kistanova. At the No. 2 spot,
Michelle Swyter (Jr., Perham, Minn.) and
Samantha Gutierrez (So., Riverside, Calif.) fell 6-1 to Valeriya Monko and Emily Granson. At the No. 3 slot,
Tasha Achermann (So., Motley, Minn.) and
Kaydance Hinn (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) were defeated by Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jancikova.
In singles, Schneider put Monko to the test at No. 1 singles in the first set, falling 7-5, but she fell 6-1 in the second set. At the No. 2 singles spot, Swyter took two games in the second set, but fell 6-0, 6-2 to Hadjigeorgiou. At the No. 3 slot, Arce Vieyra defeated Velasquez, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Achermann was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Jancikova. At the No. 5 spot, Gutierrez was upended 6-0, 6-0 by Margarita Chouliara. At the No. 6 singles slot, Hinn fell 6-0, 6-0 to Kistanova.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up the 2022 season Saturday, April 9 against Minnesota State University Moorhead, and Sunday, April 10 versus University of Mary in Fargo, N.D.
