Huskies Sweep Minnesota Crookston in NSIC Play on Tuesday

St. Cloud, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston softball hit the road for the seventh and eighth straight game, as they traveled to the Granite City for a doubleheader with St. Cloud State.

SCSU used a five-run first to knock off the Golden Eagles by a score of 8-0 in a five inning affair in game one and used a pair of three-run innings in game two for the 9-4 win over the Golden Eagles in game two.

The Golden Eagles fall to 12-25 (3-9 NSIC) on the season.

Game One
SCSU scored all five runs in the first inning playing small ball. The Huskies scored all but two of their runs in the game on singles and every run in the first inning was of the single variety.

Minnesota Crookston would be held scoreless throughout the game, but they did put a rally together in the fifth. Dana Zarn (Jr., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) led off with a single through the left side and was moved up to second on an Alyssa Stillman (Jr., SS/2B, Hortonville, Wis.) pinch-hit single. The rally would be halted on a double play.

SCSU would score two in the fifth inning to win the game in five innings.

The Golden Eagles had three hits in the game, all coming from the 6-7-8 hitters in the lineup. Zarn, Stillman and Jenna Parfeniuk (R-So., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) each collected a hit.

Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) falls to 6-11 on the season, giving up five runs on six hits in an inning of work. Nicole DeDen (Fr., P, Mission Viejo, Calif.) came in for relief of Stuck and pitched nicely in three innings, giving up three runs on five hits, while striking out one.

Game Two
Both teams would be scoreless in the first inning, but the Golden Eagles would score a pair of runs, coming on a Zarn two-run shot over the left field fence, her fifth of the season.

The Huskies would answer with three runs in both the second and third innings to take a 6-2 lead.

The Golden Eagles would try and claw back. Brittney Mengel (Fr., OF, Sullivan, Wis.) would ground into a fielder's choice with the bases load and Jordan Peterson (R-Sr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) would drive in a run with a single in the fifth.

The Huskies would add two runs in the later innings for the 9-4 victory in game two.

Peterson led the maroon and gold with a perfect 3-3 on the day with a pair of runs scored. Zarn went 2-3 with two runs batted in and Parfeniuk and Leah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) each added a hit as well.

Thayda Houser (So., P, Seymour, Iowa) went 3.1 innings, while giving up five runs, three earned on three hits. Annjelica Moreno-Engelbrecht (R-Jr., P/UT, Oceanside, Calif.) came in on relief and went 1.2 innings, while giving up four runs on four hits.
