FARGO, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team concluded the 2022 season with a 7-0 loss to University of Mary at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
Minnesota Crookston fell to 2-12. The Golden Eagles posted their best season since 2014, as they picked up their first team victories since that time. UMN Crookston has shown continued growth and are on a very positive path forward. UMary finished the regular season with a 9-6 record.
At No. 1 singles,
Madeleine Schneider (So., Gartringen, Germany) concluded the season with a 7-7 mark. She tied the school record for singles wins at No. 1 singles with seven. Schneider fell 6-2, 6-1 to Chloe Chang. At the No. 2 spot,
Michelle Swyter (Jr., Perham, Minn.) was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Ilana Freitag. At the No. 3 slot,
Sarah Velasquez (So., Chino, Calif.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Doaa Mohamed. At the No. 4 spot, Emily Needham of UMary defeated
Tasha Achermann (So., Motley, Minn.), 6-0, 6-1. At the No. 5 spot,
Samantha Gutierrez (So., Riverside, Calif.) fell 6-1, 6-1 to Heidi Jacobson. At the No. 6 spot,
Ashley Chomyn (Jr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) fought hard, but fell 6-4, 6-2 to Callie McDonald.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Schneider and Velasquez fell 6-0 to Chang and Freitag. The No. 2 doubles duo of Swyter and Gutierrez fell 6-1 to Mohamed and Needham. At No. 3 doubles, Achermann and
Kaydance Hinn (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) fell 6-0 to Jacobson and McDonald.
