SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team fell 6-1 to the University of Sioux Falls Friday, April 1 at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Golden Eagles were guided by
Madeleine Schneider (So., Gartringen, Germany) picking up a No. 1 singles victory.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 2-9 (0-8 NSIC) with Friday's loss. USF improved to 9-6 (4-3 NSIC) with the win.
Schneider improved to 6-5 with the 6-3, 6-3 win over Megan Quandt at the No. 1 singles spot. Schneider has had the best performance at No. 1 singles since Catherine Brown in 2016. Brown went 7-8 at No 1 singles during the 2016 season.
At the No. 2 spot,
Michelle Swyter (Jr., Perham, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Talia Janos. At the No. 3 singles slot,
Sarah Velasquez (So., Chino, Calif.) was competitive but was defeated 6-1, 6-2, by Joelle Thorfinnson. At the No. 4 slot,
Tasha Achermann (So., Motley, Minn.) was defeated by Emily Thinnsen, 6-0, 6-1. At the No. 5 spot,
Samantha Gutierrez (So., Riverside, Calif.) was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Katelyn Nesheim. At No. 6 singles,
Ashley Chomyn (Jr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) fell 6-1, 6-0 to Brianna Holm.
In doubles, Schneider and Velasquez played a strong match, but fell 6-3 to Janos and Thorfinnson. At the No. 2 slot, Swyter and Gutierrez were also highly competitive, but were defeated 6-3 by Thinnsen and Nesheim. At the No. 3 doubles spot, Achermann and
Kaydance Hinn (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) fell 6-0 to Emily Applegate and Peyton Forney.
The Golden Eagles will play No. 17 Augustana University Saturday, April 2 at 6 p.m., in Sioux Falls, S.D.
