Minnesota Crookston Tennis Sweeps Bethany Lutheran 7-0

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team swept Bethany Lutheran College 7-0 Friday, March 25 at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. The Golden Eagles picked up their second team victory of the season with Friday's win. UMN Crookston has their best record since the 2014 slate when they went 4-12. The Golden Eagles are 2-8 during the 2022 season. The Vikings fell to 0-3 with the loss.

The Golden Eagles opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. At the No. 1 slot, Madeline Schneider (So., Gartringen, Germany) and Sarah Velasquez (So., Chino, Calif.) moved to 3-7 with 6-2 victory over Shoshana Bruner and Emma Newton. At the No. 2 slot, Samantha Gutierrez (So., Riverside, Calif.) and Michelle Swyter (Jr., Perham, Minn.) extended their record to 2-3 with a 7-6 win against Olivia Pfeffer and Kaitlyn Berreau. At the No. 3 spot, Tasha Acherrmann (So., Motley, Minn.) and Kaydance Hinn (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) pushed their mark to 3-2 with a win over Sabrina Siewert and Audrey Kennedy.

In singles, Schneider continued the best start at No. 1 singles since Catherine Brown in 2016 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bruner. Schneider is 5-5 on the season. At the No. 2 slot, Swyter upended Newton for her second win of the season. At the No. 3 spot, Velasquez took down Pfeffer for her second singles win of the slate. At the No. 4 slot, Achermann defeated Berreau, 6-1, 6-3, for her third singles win of the year. At the No. 5 spot, Gutierrez earned her first singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Siewert. At the No. 6 singles slot, Ashley Chomyn (Jr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) continued her unbeaten streak, moving to 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kennedy.

Friday's match marked the last home stint for the Golden Eagles. They will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. next weekend to face University of Sioux Falls Friday, April 1 and Augustana University Saturday, April 2.
