Golden Eagles Lose a Pair on Monday

Topeka, Kan. – Minnesota Crookston softball finished up their trip to Kansas with a pair of games against Emporia State and Pittsburg State.

In game one, the Hornets scored two late runs to upend the Golden Eagles, 6-5.

The Gorillas of Pittsburg State would defeat the Golden Eagles in game two, 9-1.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 7-8 on the season.

Game One
Ariana Gambala (So., UT, San Diego, Calif.) would get the Golden Eagles on the board with a two out double, scoring Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.).

The Hornets would score a run in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the second on a three-run home run, taking a 4-1 lead.

Minnesota Crookston would storm back, using a pair of RBI singles from Avalos and Sydney Huwe (Fr., UT, Carver, Minn.) and a fielder's choice from Jordan Peterson (R-Sr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.). The Golden Eagles would lead 5-4 after three.

ESU would score two runs in the bottom of the fourth and take a 6-5 lead, which would be enough to squeak by the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles would collect five hits in the first game, led by Avalos and her two hits. Whitnee Curry (Fr., IF, Lincoln, Neb.) would collect a hit as well. The freshman now has a hit in all but three of the Golden Eagles games this season.

Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) picked up just her second loss on the season after giving up six earned runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings of work. Stuck falls to 5-2 on the season.

Game Two
The Gorillas would start fast, scoring four runs in the first four innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Eagles would try to chip away, scoring a run on an RBI groundout from Peterson, scoring Huwe, making it 4-1 in favor of Pitt State.

Pitt State would add four more in the top of the fifth inning to make it 9-1 and put the mercy rule into effect.

The Golden Eagles would collect four hits in the game, with two coming off the bat of Avalos, who collected four hits in the two Monday games. Huwe and Dana Zarn (Jr., IF, Winnipeg, Manitoba) would get one hit a piece.

Kamryn Frisk (R-Sr., P/1B, Anchorage, AK) falls to 1-2 in the circle after allowing nine runs on seven hits, while sitting down six Gorilla hitters.

The Golden Eagles will head out to Minot next Sunday to take on the Beavers of Minot State in non-conference play. First pitch with the Beavers is set for 1 p.m., with game two to follow shortly after.
