Minot, N.D. – Minnesota Crookston softball traveled out to Minot for the third time this season, this time for a non-conference doubleheader against Minot State.
The Beavers were able to take both games from the Golden Eagles by scores of 10-2 and 10-1, respectively, this afternoon.
The Golden Eagles fall to 7-10 on the season.
Game One
In game one, MISU would score the first four runs of the game, highlighted by a Brooklyn Morrison two-run home run.
Minot State would lead 4-0 heading into the fifth inning, but the Golden Eagles would chip away.
Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.) would double to right field, which would score
Dana Zarn (Jr., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba). Avalos would come around to score on a
Sydney Huwe (Fr., UT, Carver, Minn.) single up the middle.
That would be as close as the Golden Eagles would come, as the Beavers would score four in the bottom of the fifth and another pair in the in the sixth for the 10-2 win.
Huwe would lead the way with two hits, which tied her career-high. Zarn and Avalos each collected a hit, while
Leah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) and
Jenna Parfeniuk (R-So., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) also collected a hit as well. The Golden Eagles would leave eight runners on base in the game.
Kamryn Frisk (R-Sr., P/1B, Anchorage, AK) picked up the loss in the circle, giving up eight earned runs on 12 hits. The redshirt senior falls to 1-3 on the season.
Game Two
In game two, Minot State would jump out to an early lead, scoring one run in the bottom of the first.
They would follow that lone run in the bottom of the first inning with a four spot in the second and bettering that by scoring five in the third to take a 10-0 lead.
Minnesota Crookston would score their lone run on an
Alyssa Stillman (Jr., SS/2B, Hortonville, Wis.) solo home run, her first of the season.
The game would end after five innings.
The Golden Eagles finished with four hits on the day, led by
Shaelyn Grant (So., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.), who finished 2-2 on the day. Stillman and Avalos each finished with a hit. Avalos now has a hit in a career-best 11 straight games.
Evie Stuck (Fr., P/1B, Papillion, Neb.) gets the loss in the circle, giving up 10 runs, just five of which were earned on nine hits in 2.2 innings of work.
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will head south to the Sunshine State, where they will play eight games in Florida, starting with Caldwell University next Monday at 9 A.M.
