Golden Eagle Softball Splits with Pair of NSIC Foes on Saturday in Minot

Minot, N.D. – Another weekend, another weather disruption for Golden Eagle softball. The Golden Eagles, who were supposed to play Minot State yesterday, were unable to travel down Highway-2 yesterday, so they instead played two this afternoon in the Minot State Dome Invitational against the University of Mary and Bemidji State.

In game one, Minnesota Crookston was able to ride the pitching of Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) and a five-run third inning to defeat the Marauders, 5-0. In the second game, BSU used an 8-0 lead to get by the Golden Eagles, 11-5.

With the split, Minnesota Crookston moves to 5-5 on the season, which is tied for their best start in program history through 10 games.

Game One
Both the Marauders and Golden Eagles would be scoreless through the first two innings, but the Golden Eagles were able to break through in the top of the third inning.

Whitnee Curry (Fr., IF, Lincoln, Neb.) would triple to right field, scoring Leah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) all the way from first.

Curry would come around to score as Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.) would single through the left side, collecting her seventh RBI of the season. Avalos would later score on a Dana Zarn (Jr., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) single.

The big hit of the inning would come off the bat of Ariana Gambala (So., UT, San Diego, Calif.) who would single in Zarn and Annjelica Moreno-Engelbrecht (R-Jr., P/UT, Oceanside, Calif.).

That 5-0 lead would be all the Golden Eagles would need.

Stuck would pick up her third win of the season, two of which coming in shutout fashion. The freshman would go the distance, allowing no runs on six hits, while striking out three.

Game Two
Bemidji State would get off to a fast start against the Golden Eagles. Elaina Christiansen would get the four-run first inning started by homering to straight-away center, scoring Alexa Christiansen.

BSU would add one more in the second inning and three more in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead into the bottom half of the fifth inning.

The maroon and gold would try to chip away. Hannah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) would double in Sydney Huwe (Fr., UT, Carver, Minn.), who led off the inning with a double of her own. Macias would later score on a Gabriella Blomdahl (Jr., OF, Duluth, Minn.) single.

The Beavers would add two more in the sixth, but the Golden Eagles would answer with three of their own, highlighted by a Blomdahl single, scoring two.

BSU would add on one more in the seventh, winning 11-5 over the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles finished with eight hits as a team, highlighted by Blomdahl, who went 2-4 with 3 RBIs. Avalos continues her four-game hitting streak with a 1-2 line in the game.

In the circle, Kamryn Frisk (R-Sr., P/1B, Anchorage, AK) picked up the loss in the game, going five innings, giving up eight runs, all of which were earned, while striking out three. Nicole DeDen (Fr., P, Mission Viejo, Calif.) finished the game by going two innings and giving up three runs.

What's Next
The Golden Eagles will finish up their second trip to Minot tomorrow morning at 8 A.M., as they do battle with Montana State University Billings.
