Aberdeen, S.D. – Emma Miller (Fr., G, Albertville, Minn.) scored a career-high 32 points for Minnesota Crookston, who held off a furious second half rally from Northern State for the 61-50 victory on Friday night in Aberdeen.
The 32 points for Miller is tied for the 7
th most by a Golden Eagle in a game and the most since Katrina Nordick scored 32 against Minnesota State in 2016.
The Golden Eagles improve to 3-7 (2-3 NSIC) on the season.
It wouldn't take long for Miller to get in the scoring column, scoring the first two points for the Golden Eagles early in the game.
The rest of the first quarter would see both teams go back-and-forth, but
Abigail Leach (R-Jr., G/F, Wyoming, Minn.) would bury the first of her three makes from deep, tying the game at 11.
Minnesota Crookston would take the lead for good at the end of the first quarter on a Miller make from deep, leading 16-14 after the first ten minutes.
The second quarter would be all Golden Eagles, who would go on a 14-0 run to open the second half, propelled by Miller and
Alex Page (So., F, Grand Forks, N.D.).
After the deficit would be cut two 12, the Golden Eagles would close out the half with nine straight points, all coming on two makes from deep from Miller and a Page three.
Miller would finish with 22 first half points.
The Golden Eagles would hold the Wolves to a season-low four points in the quarter.
The third quarter would see the Wolves make a push, outscoring the Golden Eagles 12-5, heading into the final 10 minutes down by 14.
The push from the Wolves would continue, as they would get within five midway through the fourth, but a huge three from Leach pushed the lead back up to eight.
The Wolves would get within four, but the Golden Eagles would go 7-8 down the stretch from the charity stripe, icing the game for the 11 point win.
Miller led the way with her 32 points on 11-23 shooting, while also adding six rebounds and two assists. Miller also buried a career-high five threes. Page followed with a season-high 13 points, while Leach added five points.
Minnesota Crookston made ten shots from deep, while holding the Wolves to 0-15 shooting from behind the arc.
Minnesota Crookston is back at it tomorrow against MSU Moorhead in Nemzek Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 3:30 P.M.
