CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer program announced the signing of three student-athletes as part of their 2023 signing class. The Golden Eagles inked Megan McGraw (F, 5-4, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee H.S.), Marsia Green (F, 5-10, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran H.S.), and Madison Lein (D, 5-4, Bismarck, N.D./Legacy H.S.).
"I am excited to announce the signings of Megan McGraw, Marsia Green and Madison Lein as part of the incoming class of 2023 to the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles soccer program," said Head Coach
Neil Mancktelow. "I look forward to working with these student athletes on their collegiate soccer journey."
The Golden Eagles have a strong core returning from the 2022 season. Minnesota Crookston returns 16 players from last year's roster. Minnesota Crookston finished the season with a 2-15-1 (1-13-1 NSIC) mark. They doubled their wins from a season prior and had their most wins since 2016.
Neil Mancktelow will enter his first season as head coach in 2023. Mancktelow was the assistant coach for the Golden Eagles during the 2022 slate. The Golden Eagles were guided in 2022 by
Abby Fettinger (So., F, White Bear Lake, Minn.) with two goals.
Sarah Burgum (Fr., F, Mandan, N.D.) returns after tallying one goal and one assist.
The student-athletes listed as having signed a National Letter of Intent or Offer of Admission to play women's soccer at the University of Minnesota Crookston have been verified by the Minnesota Crookston compliance office once they sign the National Letter of Intent or once the student-athlete has accepted an Offer of Admission for Minnesota Crookston.
Megan McGraw (F, 5-4, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee H.S.)
McGraw was an All-South Suburban Conference pick at Shakopee H.S. She was named Miss Offense by the Shakopee H.S. squad. McGraw was an All-Academic selection during her high school career. She helped her squad to a 10-6-2 mark as a senior. McGraw aided Shakopee H.S. to the Section 2AAA Semifinal.
She is the daughter of Eric and Shannon McGraw. McGraw is undecided on her major. Her brother Cade is a freshman at Gustavus Adolphus College, where he competes for both the men's basketball and baseball teams.
"Megan is someone that we have brought in to help the Golden Eagles in the final third of the field," Mancktelow stated. "I look forward to working with her on her finishing. We are excited to add her to the Golden Eagle soccer program."
Marsia Green (F, 5-10, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran H.S.)
Green was an All-Minnesota River Conference performer at Mayer Lutheran H.S. She helped Mayer Lutheran H.S. to a 7-7-1 mark during her senior season. Green tallied 15 goals for Mayer Lutheran H.S. during her final campaign. She is a National Honor Society member.
She is the daughter of Edward Green and Theresa Green. Green plans to major in biology/pre-med at UMN Crookston. Her father Edward Green played baseball at Pacific University.
"Marsia is a creative player that has the ability to outplay 1v1." Mancktelow said. "I look forward to working with her on how she can help the Golden Eagles create more goal scoring opportunities. She will be a great addition to the Golden Eagle soccer program."
Madison Lein (D, 5-4, Bismarck, N.D./Legacy H.S.)
Lein earned All-Western Dakota Association honors as a sophomore and junior at Legacy H.S. She served as team captain for her squad. She has been a member of the 4.0 honor roll during all four years of her high school career. She helped Bismarck Legacy H.S. to a state tournament berth in 2022 as a junior.
She is the daughter of Dara Lein and Chad Lein. Lein plans to major in business management at UMN Crookston. Her father Chad Lein played baseball at Bismarck State College.
"Madison is a defender that is comfortable on the ball which is needed in the modern game," Mancktelow stated. "I look forward to working with her on the art of defending at the college level. Madison will add greatly to the UMN Crookston soccer program."
