CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team announced the signing of Ariadna Solis Guals (Santpedor, Spain/IES D'Auro). Solis Guals is the first signee for the Golden Eagles for the 2023 signing class. She will begin competing for the Golden Eagles during the 2024 season.
Solis Guals will look to elevate a Golden Eagle squad that moved in a positive trajectory in 2022. UMN Crookston finished with a 2-12 mark, picking up their first two wins as a program since March of 2014. UMN Crookston was lifted by the play of
Madeleine Schneider, who went 7-7 at No. 1 singles tying for the most singles wins in program history. Minnesota Crookston returns seven players from the 2022 squad including Schneider.
Tasha Achermann (Jr., Motley, Minn.) went 3-11 at No. 4 singles in 2022.
Ashley Chomyn (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) posted a 6-2 mark at No. 6 singles in 2022.
Samantha Gutierrez,
Kaydance Hinn,
Michelle Swyter, and
Sarah Velasquez all also return to the court for UMN Crookston. In addition, UMN Crookston has added West Liberty University transfer
Kavya Singh and
Blaike Zander, a former All-State performer at Bismarck Century H.S., who transfers from University of North Dakota where she was previously a student.
The student-athlete listed as having signed a National Letter of Intent or Offer of Admission to play women's tennis at the University of Minnesota Crookston have been verified by the Minnesota Crookston compliance office once they sign the National Letter of Intent or once the student-athlete has accepted an Offer of Admission for Minnesota Crookston.
Ariadna Solis Guals (Santpedor, Spain/IES D'Auro)
Solis Guals was a semifinalist in team championships for U-16. She was a runner-up at championships for U-18 and junior championships for U-18. Solis Guals was selected for the RDS program for U-14 organized by the Catalonian Tennis Federation. When she was 11, Solis Guals had the opportunity to play tennis with former professional tennis players David Ferrer, a three-time Davis Cup Champion, and Pablo Carreno Busta, a current professional tennis player who won the Olympic bronze medal in men's singles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
She is the daughter of Antonio Solis Portillo and Imma Guals Sanz. Solis Guals plans to major in international business at UMN Crookston.
