Bottineau, N.D. – Minnesota Crookston hockey continued their hot start through nine games on Friday night in the Thunderdome. The Golden Eagles scored the game's first five goals, with two in the first period and two in the second period for the 5-3 victory over the Lumberjacks.
Minnesota Crookston has won eight out of their first nine games to open the season and improves to 8-1 on the year.
Zach Larson (Jr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) would kick off the scoring with a goal at the 7:07 mark of the first period.
Griffen Sonstegard (Fr., D, Baudette, Minn.) would tally an assist on the goal, his second straight game with a point.
Tyler Zahradka (Jr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) would also collect an assist.
Dylan Borseth (Sr., F, Williston, Minn.) would score his third goal of the season with just five seconds remaining in the first period to put the Golden Eagles up by a pair.
Logan Syrup (So., F, Park River, N.D.) and Sonstegard would notch assists.
Larson would put the puck in the back of the net for the second time of the night, with
Spencer Dahlquist (Jr., D, Maple Grove, Minn.) tallying the assist.
Syrup would collect the game winning goal with 1:09 remaining in the second period on a short-handed goal.
Casey Kallock (R-Sr., D, Alvarado, Minn.) would collect the primary assist, with Larson scoring his third point of the night with the second assist.
Early in the third,
Dylan Neubauer (So., F, Thompson, N.D.) would score his fourth goal of the season, putting the Golden Eagles up, 5-0. Neubauer continues to add on to his career-high in goals.
The Lumberjacks would score three late goals in the third, but it wouldn't be nearly enough.
Jake Sumner (Jr., G, Alta Loma, Calif.) earned his second-straight start in net and was outstanding yet again. Sumner made 23 saves on 26 shots. Sumner moves to 4-0 on the season.
Larson led the way with three points, while Sonstegard and Syrup each tallied two points on the night. Syrup now has 22 points on the season.
The Golden Eagles will look for their fourth sweep of the season tomorrow afternoon against the Lumberjacks. Puck drop is set for 2:30 P.M.
