UMary Scores Early Goal to Defeat Golden Eagles 1-0

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team played an even game with the University of Mary but a goal in the fourth minute led the Marauders to a 1-0 victory.

The Golden Eagles fell to 2-14-1 (1-12-1 NSIC) with Sunday's loss. UMary improves to 10-4-3 (7-4-3 NSIC) with the victory.

The Marauders had 15 shots, with seven on goal. UMN Crookston finished with nine shots, two on frame. Each team had two corner kicks.

The lone goal in the game came in the fourth minute when Kendra Park scored off assists from MaLiah Burke and Tara Young.

Madelyn Teplansky (Jr., MF, Apple Valley, Calif.) paced the Golden Eagles with three shots. Greta Saylor (So., MF, New Brighton, Minn.) had two shots. The Marauders were propelled by five shots from Park.

Kathryn Brainerd (Sr., GK, Corcoran, Minn.) played the full 90 minutes, with one goal allowed and six saves. Madisyn Waltman had the clean sheet, with two saves.

UMN Crookston's best opportunity to score came in the 78th minute when Pavlacic tried to play one over the keeper, but Waltman had a great save to keep the Golden Eagles out of the net.

Minnesota Crookston honored their four seniors Sunday for all they have meant to the program. Brainerd, Pavlacic, Morgan LaPlante (Sr., F, De Soto, Kan.), and Ashley Chomyn (Sr., D, Winnipeg, Manitoba) were honored after the game.

The Golden Eagles wrap up the 2022 season Thursday, October 27 at 2 p.m. versus Bemidji State University.
