Golden Eagle Soccer Puts Scare in No. 21 Bemidji State; Fall 2-0 to Close Out 2022

Crookston, Minn. – No. 21 Bemidji State scored two first half goals, including one of the penalty kick variety to hold off Minnesota Crookston on a cold and windy Thursday afternoon.

Minnesota Crookston ends their season at 2-15-1 (1-13-1 NSIC), while the Beavers end the regular season at 11-2-5 (10-1-4 NSIC).

The first few minutes of the first half would see both teams with a bunch of possession, but not a lot of quality chances.

BSU would finally start to gain some momentum and would eventually earn the first of their two penalty shots in the match.

Erin Becker would draw the foul and would get the penalty shot past the outstretched arms of senior goalkeeper Kathryn Brainerd (Sr., GK, Corcoran, Minn.) for a 1-0 Beaver lead.

11 minutes later, Emily Baurr would score her first goal of the season, well outside the box, putting the Beavers up 2-0.

That is how the score would look heading into halftime.

Minnesota Crookston would make some adjustments at the half and would start to get pressure in the second half.

With 15 minutes left in the match, Greta Saylor (So., MF, New Brighton, Minn.) would take a Beaver turnover and uncork a rocket off her left foot that hit the top woodwork. Alyssa Pavlacic (Sr., MF, St. Charles, Mo.) would have a chance at a rebound, but would send it over the top.

Just two minutes later, Sarah Burgum (Fr., F, Mandan, N.D.) would shoot from inside the box, but it would be saved by the Beaver goalkeeper.

BSU would hold on for the 2-0 victory.

The Golden Eagles finished with five shots, led by two from Saylor. Brainerd wraps-up her solid Golden Eagle career with nine saves in the match.

The Golden Eagles will miss four outstanding seniors next season: Brainerd, Pavlacic, Ashley Chomyn (Sr., D, Winnipeg, Manitoba), and Morgan Laplante (Sr., F, De Soto, Kan.).
