Grand Forks, N.D. – Minnesota Crookston hockey outshot North Dakota club hockey 68-30 in route to a 10-2 victory over the Fighting Hawks.
The 10 goals are the most in the club hockey era and the most since Feb. 20, 2022, when the Golden Eagles scored eight goals against the Tetons of Williston State College.
Minnesota Crookston moves to 3-0 on the season, the best start since the inception of the program in 2020.
Minnesota Crookston would dominate first nine minutes of the period and would finally be paid off on a five on three power play.
Zach Larson (Jr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) potted his first goal of the season on a juicy rebound, putting Minnesota Crookston up by a goal.
North Dakota would score a pair of goals just 56 seconds apart, giving them a 2-1 lead late in the first period.
Logan Syrup (So., F, Park River, N.D.), who already had an assist on the Larson goal, would find the back of the net, tying things up at two. That is how the first period would end.
The second period would be all Minnesota Crookston.
Dylan Borseth (Sr., F, Williston, N.D.) would score the game-winning goal on a beautiful feed from Syrup, who went between the legs to get by the defender, then found Borseth in the slot for the second power play of the night.
33 seconds later,
Gunner Ferrier (Jr., D, Baudette, Minn.) would find the puck at the blue line and sniped one past the Fighting Hawks goalie for his first goal of the season.
Landon Syrup (Fr., F, Park River, N.D.) would score his first career goal less than two minutes later, making it 5-2.
Jake Huska (Jr., D, Snow Lake, Manitoba) would also score his first-career Golden Eagle goal, making it 6-2.
Casey Kallock (Sr., D, Alvarado, Minn.), Ferrier and
Logan Syrup would also each add a goal, putting the game well out of reach, making it 9-2 heading into the third period.
Griffen Sonstegard (Fr., D, Baudette, Minn.) would finish off the scoring with his first career Golden Eagle goal at the 4:28 mark of the third period.
14 different Golden Eagles would collect a point.
Logan Syrup would finish with four points; two goals and two assists, while Kallock would collect three points with a goal and two assists.
Jake Sumner (Jr., G, Alta Loma, Calif.) got his first start in goal and made 28 saves on 30 shots. Sumner picked up his first win of the season.
Minnesota Crookston will look for their second consecutive sweep to open 2022 tomorrow as they will once again meet up with the Fighting Hawks at 2 P.M., from the ICON Sports Center.
