Minnesota Crookston Soccer Falls 6-0 to Southwest Minnesota State

MARSHALL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team was defeated 6-0 by Southwest Minnesota State University Sunday, October 16 at Mattke Field at Schwan Regional Events Center in Marshall, Minn.

The Golden Eagles fall to 2-12-1 (1-10-1 NSIC) with the loss. Minnesota Crookston is currently 16th in the NSIC standings. They are one point behind the University of Sioux Falls and two points behind Upper Iowa University. Southwest Minnesota State improved to 2-6-7 (2-6-4 NSIC).

The Mustangs were guided by Katie Oatman with a goal and two assists. Emma Dahnert added two assists.

Southwest Minnesota scored their first tally in the 26th minute when Oatman found the back of the net off a Dahnert assist. In the 40th minute, Kirsten Wetterstorm scored on an Oatman assist. The Mustangs ended the first half with a goal in the 44th minute from Hannah Walburg off assists from Oatman and Dahnert.

The Mustangs added a goal in the 70th minute in the second half when Alex Lotts scored her sixth of the season off a Madi Foutz assist. In the 75th minute, Brooke Wetterstrom picked up a tally off a Haley Mason helper. Southwest Minnesota State finished off with a score from Kylee Bennett in the 86th minute off a Julia Sullivan assist.

Alyssa Pavlacic (Sr., D/MF, St. Charles, Mo.) paced the Golden Eagles with two shots, one on goal.

Kathryn Brainerd (Sr., GK, Corcoran, Minn.) got the start in goal, allowing six goals and picking up nine saves. Julianne Arballo got the clean sheet in net for the Mustangs, grabbing three saves.

Minnesota Crookston heads into the final three games of the season. They face their final road test Friday, October 21 at Minot State University in Minot, N.D. at 7 p.m.
