SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with the University of Sioux Falls Friday, October 14 at Bob Young Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. Both teams scored goals in the final nine minutes of the game as it ended in a draw.
Minnesota Crookston sits at 2-11-1 (1-9-1 NSIC) following the tie. Sioux Falls moves to 0-9-5 (0-6-5 NSIC). It was the first draw with the Cougars since a 0-0 tie October 22, 2016.
The Golden Eagles took the 1-0 advantage in the 82
nd minute off a beautiful free kick from
Julia Finch (Fr., D, Woodbury, Minn.), played into the box where
Lanie Padelford (So., D/MF, Mahtomedi, Minn.) flicked the ball on to
Sarah Burgum (Fr., F, Mandan, N.D.) for her first career goal. Burgum has a goal and an assist this season. Padelford and Finch notched their first assists of the season.
The Cougars responded in the 89
th minute when Julia Kreutner scored on a Lauren Johnson assist to make it 1-1. The goal was the first for USF during the 2022 season.
Minnesota Crookston notched six shots, with three on goal. USF finished with 17 shots, 11 on goal. Burgum guided Minnesota Crookston with two shots.
Kathryn Brainerd (Sr., GK, Corcoran, Minn.) allowed one goal, and had nine saves. Caroline Titze finished with one goal allowed, and two saves.
Minnesota Crookston currently sits one point behind Sioux Falls in the standings. The Golden Eagles head to Marshall, Minn., to face Southwest Minnesota State University Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m.
