ABERDEEN, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team fell 4-0 Sunday, September 19 to Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. The Wolves were propelled by two goals off the bench from Eva Larson. Northern State scored two goals early in the first half, and two later in the second stanza.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-4 (1-1 NSIC) with Sunday's loss. Northern State improves to 2-2 (1-1 NSIC) with the victory.
Larson led the Wolves with two goals, while Chloe Storm added two assists. Kelsey Selden added one goal and an assist, while DeAnna LeMire added the other goal. In net, Alexus Townsend had no goals allowed and one save in the first half, while Mackenna Heiden had no saves and no goals against in the final 45 minutes.
The Golden Eagles lone shot on goal came from
Lanie Padelford (Fr., D/MF, Mahtomedi, Minn.). In goal,
Abby Olsen (So., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) allowed four goals and had eight saves for the game.
Northern State jumped on the scoreboard early in the first half. The Wolves tallied two goals in a span of two minutes Sunday. LeMire got everything started with a goal in the 10
th minute. Shortly thereafter, Kelsey Selden put one in the back of the net off an assist from Mia Zagorski to push the lead to 2-0.
Minnesota Crookston had their best chance as time expired in the first half when Padelford had an opportunity right in front of the net, but Townsend was able to keep UMN Crookston out of the back of the net.
Northern State had nine shots, with five shots on goal. The Wolves notched two corners. UMN Crookston had one shot, and one shot on goal.
Minnesota Crookston had the best major scoring chance in the second half as they got their first corner kick of the game. However, the Golden Eagles were unable to put a chance on a goal.
The Wolves had a chance in the 58
th minute with a shot on goal from Calista Kocmick, but Olsen put the chance away.
Off a corner kick in the 60
th minute, Megan Fastenau's shot was saved by Olsen. Seconds later Teya Trujillo's shot hit the post.
Northern State had another chance in the 62th minute, this time from Isabela Polanco Garcia. Olsen was able to corral the save to keep the score at 2-0.
The Golden Eagles were able to earn another corner kick in the 68
th minute but were unable to get a good look at a goal chance, leaving the score at 2-0.
Northern State was able to get another opportunity in the 73
rd minute as Summer Carlson put a chance on goal.
The Wolves added a goal in the 78
th minute when Larson found the back of the net off an assist from Chloe Storm.
The Golden Eagles earned a corner kick in the 84
th minute, but were again unable to capitalize on the set piece.
Northern State had another opportunity in the 87
th minute when Zoe Boughton's chance was saved by Olsen. Just under a minute later, Larson found the back of the net off assists from Selden and Storm to push the lead to 4-0.
Minnesota Crookston was unable to respond as the Wolves won the game 4-0.
The Golden Eagles remain on the road to face Concordia University, St. Paul Friday, September 24 at 7 p.m.
