Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team scored the first goal against Concordia University-St. Paul, but the Golden Eagles scored five unanswered goals to win 5-1.
Minnesota Crookston fell to 1-5 (1-2 NSIC) with Friday's loss. Concordia-St. Paul improved to 3-2-1 (2-0-1) with the victory.
The Golden Eagles were guided by the first career goal from
Lanie Padelford (Fr., MF, Mahtomedi, Minn.).
Abby Fettinger (Fr., MF, White Bear Lake, Minn.) had two shots on goal for UMN Crookston. Padelford and
Madelyn Teplansky (So., MF/F, Apple Valley, Calif.) both had one shot on goal.
Abby Olsen (So., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) finished with five goals against and 10 saves. Minnesota Crookston had five shots and four shots on goal, with three corners.
Concordia-St. Paul picked up goals from Nikki Anderson, Lola Baldwin, Katie Glowinski, and Bethany Weller. Weller led the team with seven shots and two shots on goal. The Golden Bears had 38 shots and 15 shots on goal, with seven corners on the day. Jessi Jordan allowed one goal. Sarah Golemme notched one save, while Ashlyn Waldon had two saves.
The Golden Bears had the first shot on goal of the game as Olsen put away Jena Berkland's attempt in the fifth minute.
The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard first for the second time this season as Padelford played a beautiful ball from 45 yards out into the top center of the net over Jordan in the 14
th minute
Concordia-St. Paul got the equalizer in the 16
th minute from Bethany Weller to knot it up 1-1.
The Golden Bears took the 2-1 lead in the 30
th minute when Lola Baldwin headed in a cross from Cayla Renwick. Corynn Grabau notched the second assist.
In the 31
st minute Sammy Ponsonby's attempt was saved by Olsen.
Sydney Manthana put an attempt on frame in the 39
th minute, but Olsen came up with another save. Two minutes later, Jessica Timpane's attempt was put away with Olsen.
In the 42
nd minute, Weller's attempt was saved by Olsen. Right at the end of the first half, Harper Smoot put an attempt on frame and it was saved by Olsen.
Concordia-St. Paul had 16 shots, with eight shots on goal at the half. The Golden Eagles had one shot and one shot on goal.
The Golden Bears added to their lead in the 47
th minute with a goal from Katie Glowinski to push the advantage to 3-1.
Minnesota Crookston had a great chance off a corner kick but Fettinger's volley was put away by Ashlyn Waldon.
Madelyn Teplansky had a shot for the Golden Eagles in the 55
th minute, but Waldon was able to corral the save.
In the 57
th minute, Concordia-St. Paul's Ailee Snapko had an attempt on net saved by Olsen.
The Golden Bears pushed their lead to 4-1 in the 74
th minute with a Leah Engh goal off an Abby Kloiber assist.
Concordia-St. Paul extended their advantage to 5-1 in the 76
th minute with a Nikki Anderson goal.
The Golden Bears had an attempt from Snapko in the 78
th minute, but Olsen got the save for UMN Crookston.
Grabau had an attempt on goal in the 86
th minute, but Olsen was able to pick up the save for Minnesota Crookston.
The Golden Eagles had a shot in the 89
th minute from
Morgan Laplante (Jr., F, De Soto, Kan.), but her shot went right of goal. In the final minute, Fettinger's shot was saved by Golemme for the Golden Bears.
Concordia-St. Paul came away with the 5-1 win Friday evening.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action Sunday, September 26 at 1 p.m. against Minnesota State University, Mankato.
