Golden Eagles Sweep Beavers to Earn First Win of Season

9/14/2021 9:55:00 PM

Box Score Minot, N.D. – It was a rare midweek non-conference match for Minnesota Crookston volleyball, who traveled to Minot for a date with the Beavers of Minot State. Although Minot State and Minnesota Crookston are in the NSIC, Tuesday's match was a non-conference match.

The Golden Eagles took control in the first set and never looked back, sweeping the Beavers to win the match in three sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-19).

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 1-4 (0-0 NSIC) on the season, while the Beavers fall to 0-5 on the young season.

We were not able to get play-by-play stats at this time of the release, but we did get individual stats for both teams.

For the Golden Eagles, they were led by standout senior Lauren Wallace (R-Sr., OH, Bloomington, Minn.) with 11 kills. Mara Weisensel (So., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) continued her impressive start to the season with 10 kills. It's her first match of the season with double-digit kills. Charlee Krieg (So., OH, Cavalier, Minn.) and Bailey Schaefer (So., OH, Brandon, Minn.) added seven and five kills respectively.

Defensively, Schaefer and Wallace led the way with 13 and 11 digs, respectively. The double-double for Wallace was her second of the season and second in as many matches for the redshirt senior.

From the service line, the Golden Eagles were really good, collecting 10 service aces on the night, including three from Wallace and three from freshman Layne Whaley (Fr., DS, Ashland, Neb.), which is a career-high.

As a team, the Golden Eagles hit at a .175 mark for the match.
