Minnesota Crookston Baseball Hosts Northern State Wednesday

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team will host Northern State University Wednesday, April 28 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. at UMC Baseball Field. The Golden Eagles are looking to snap a four-game losing streak as they take on the Wolves.

Minnesota Crookston has had a historic season with a 17-6 (12-6 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles have been ranked as high as No. 18 this season in the NCBWA poll.

The Golden Eagles are currently third in the NSIC standings entering Wednesday's games. Northern State has won the last four games in the series. Minnesota Crookston's last win came with a 10-6 victory April 25, 2018 in Crookston.

Minnesota Crookston is ranked 12th nationally for home runs per game. The Golden Eagles set the mark for most home runs in a season for the Golden Eagle program. Mason Ruhlman (R-Sr., 2B, Algonac, Mich.) is seventh nationally for walks per game. Jake Dykhoff (Jr., RHP, Wadena, Minn.) is sixth in the nation for complete games. Will Zimmerman (R-Sr., OF, Park River, N.D.) is eighth in the country for hits by pitch per game, and ninth for runs per game. Brock Reller (Sr., OF, Grand Forks, N.D.) is 16th in the nation for home runs per game.

UMN Crookston is hitting .268 for the season. The Golden Eagles have a .909 OPS for the season. UMN Crookston has scored 193 runs, has 43 doubles, eight triples, 40 home runs, and 166 RBIs. Reller leads the team hitting .333 with a 1.219 OPS. Reller has scored 24 runs, with nine home runs, and 29 RBIs. Jake Hjelle (R-Fr., 1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) is batting .314 with 26 runs scored, five doubles, seven home runs, and 23 RBIs. Ruhlman is batting .310 with 25 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 17 RBIs. Will Zimmerman (R-Sr., OF, Park River, N.D.) is hitting .309 with 28 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 21 RBIs.

The Golden Eagles have a 5.84 ERA with 178 strikeouts and 108 walks. Dykhoff leads the team with a 1.54 ERA with a 4-0 mark, 50 strikeouts, and just seven walks. Jake Osowski (R-Fr., RHP, East Grand Forks, Minn.) is 3-0 with a 3.63 ERA. Alex Koep (Fr., LHP, Parkers Prairie, Minn.) comes in with a 2-0 mark and a 4.74 ERA. Out of the bullpen, Brody Sorenson (Fr., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.) is 1-1 with four saves with a 3.14 ERA. Garrett Hohn (R-Sr., RHP, Wausau, Wis.) is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA. Matt Nelson (R-So., RHP, Afton, Minn.) is 3-0 with a 5.82 ERA on the season.

Northern State Preview
Northern State comes in with a 15-14 (14-11 NSIC) mark. The Wolves are currently seventh in the NSIC standings.

Northern State is hitting .268 for the season. The Wolves have scored 153 runs, they have 47 doubles, seven triples, 23 home runs, and 132 RBIs. Reece Ragatz leads the Wolves, hitting .329 with 14 runs scored, six doubles, two home runs, and 10 RBIs. Spencer Sarringar is batting .312 with 17 runs scored, four doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 23 RBIs. Ramon Vega, Jr. is hitting .308 with 18 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 18 RBIs. Justin Hutter comes in hitting .301 on the season with 17 runs scored.

The Wolves come in with a 4.89 ERA as a pitching staff. Northern State has struck out 233 batters, with 117 walks. The staff is led by Seth Brewer, who is 6-0 with a .193 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched. Brewer has struck out 62, with just 19 walks. Out of the bullpen, Brandon Ford has a 2.35 ERA in 7.1 innings pitched. Brian Baker is 1-2 with a 2.78 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched. Mike Stubbs comes in with a 1-1 mark and a 3.66 ERA, while Max Otto is 2-1 with a 5.45 ERA.
