DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston returned to the court Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 27 with matches against St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center in Duluth, Minn.
The Golden Eagles fell 7-0 Saturday to St. Cloud State, and 7-0 Sunday to Minnesota Duluth. Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-9 with the pair of losses. The Bulldogs move to 3-5 with the win, while the Huskies improve to 4-7 with the victory.
In Saturday's match against the Huskies, Minnesota Crookston was led in doubles by
Tasha Achermann (Fr., Motley, Minn.) and
Michelle Swyter (Jr., Perham, Minn.), who were able to take a game from Shanna Kinny and Frances Hina Goldsmith, but fell 6-1 overall. At the No. 2 doubles spot,
Ashley Chomyn (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba) and
Gabriela Pinto (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) fell 6-0 to Jill Kedrowski and Kylee Frisbie. At the No. 3 slot,
Karli Renney (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and
Samantha Hartung (Sr., Albany, Minn.) fell 6-0 to Emma Brunkow and Samantha Fitzpatrick.
In singles, Pinto led the way by taking two games off Ellen Baranczyk, but she ultimately fell 6-0, 6-2. At the No. 1 singles slot, Achermann took a game from Hina Goldsmith, but fell 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 2 spot, Swyter was upended by Fitzpatrick, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 3 slot, Chomyn was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Kedrowski. At the No. 4 singles spot, Renney fell 6-0, 6- to Kinny. Hartung was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Frisbie.
On Sunday, Minnesota Crookston was led again by the play of Achermann and Swyter at the No. 1 slot. They took a game from Natalie Cahill and Sophie Lynch but were defeated 6-1. At the No. 2 slot, Chomyn and Pinto were defeated by Mallory Lithun and Shay Callaway, 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, Hartung and Renney were defeated by Emily Rahrik and Abby Johnson, 6-0.
In singles, Chomyn took games from Rahrik at No. 3 singles in both sets, but fell 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 5 spot, Hartung took games in both singles from Hines, but was defeated 6-1, 6-1. At No. 1 singles, Achermann was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Cahill. At the No. 2 spot, Swyter was upended 6-0, 6-0 by Lithun. At the No. 4 spot, Renney was defeated by Callaway, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 6 singles slot, Pinto was defeated by Johnson, 6-0, 6-0.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up the season April 11 with home matches at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. against Augustana University and University of Sioux Falls.
