BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team opened the 2021 season with a 7-0 loss to Bemidji State University at the Gillett Wellness Center in Bemidji, Minn. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Beavers move to 1-0.
In singles, at the No. 1 slot
Tasha Achermann (Fr., Motley, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Sophie Groen. At No. 2 doubles,
Michelle Swyter (Jr., Perham, Minn.) was upended 6-0, 6-0 by Shay Johnson. At the No. 3 spot,
Ashley Chomyn (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba) was defeated by Claudie Billand, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4 singles,
Karli Renney (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Hannah Peterson. At the No. 5 slot,
Samantha Hartung (Sr., Albany, Minn.) was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Maggie Richardson. At No. 6 singles, Gabby Pinto (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) was defeated by Isabela Nelson, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Achermann and Swyter were defeated 6-0 by Johnson and Billand at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 doubles, Chomyn and Renney fell 6-0 to Peterson and Nelson. At No. 3 doubles, Hartung and Pinto were defeated by Richardson and Taylor Offerdahl 6-0.
The Golden Eagles will return to action Sat., Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. against University of Mary in Virginia, Minn.
