Humhej Throws First Perfect Game in Program History; Golden Eagles Earn Split Saturday

St. Cloud, Minn.—Minnesota Crookston wrapped-up the Husky Dome Tournament on Saturday afternoon with two games against Northwestern College and Viterbo College.

A big inning helped the Raiders of Northwestern College defeat Minnesota Crookston, 10-4 in game one. In game two, Katie Humhej (Sr., P, Surrey, British Columbia) threw the first perfect game in school history to defeat Viterbo College, 11-0 in five innings.

The Golden Eagles improve to 1-5 on the season.

Game One
The Raiders would jump out to a quick 4-0 lead, with the help of a Kameryn Etherington three-run homerun off of Sofia Gombos (Fr., P, Salinas, Calif.).

The gritty Golden Eagles would chip away in the bottom of the third, cutting the lead to 4-2 after a Hailey Hatfield (Fr., UT, Olathe, Kan.) two-run single.

In the bottom of the fifth, Sarah Velasquez (Fr., OF, Chino, Calif.) reached on an error, which allowed Hannah Macias (Jr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) to cross home plate.

In the top of the sixth however, the Raiders would score six runs in the top of the sixth, to open up the game and defeat Minnesota Crookston, 10-4.

Macias and Dana Zarn (So., IF, Winnipeg, Man.) each collected two hits on the season. Zarn is now hitting .412 on the season. As a team, the Golden Eagles collected eight hits, while leaving six runners on base.

Gombos picked up the loss in the opening game, going 4.0 innings, giving up four runs on six hits, while striking out one.

Game Two
In game two, the Golden Eagles would score three runs in both the first and third innings, as well as a five spot in the second inning to run rule the V-Hawks, winning 11-0 in five innings.

The Golden Eagles would get on the board early. Hatfield would send a ball over the fence for her first long ball of her young career, giving Minnesota Crookston a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles would add two more in the bottom of the first.

In the second, Minnesota Crookston would score five runs, the most runs they've scored in an inning this season, highlighted by a Shaelyn Grant (Fr., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) two run double, driving in her first runs as a Golden Eagle.

In the bottom of the third, a three-run Cassie Querry (Sr., C, Cassville, Pa.) double would cap off the offensive explosion for the Golden Eagles.

The real story was in the circle. Humhej, who earned her third start of the season and proved that the third time is indeed the charm.

The British Columbia native put up a lot of zeroes, going 5.0 innings, while striking out eight and giving up zero hits, zero walks and zero runs for the first perfect game in program history.
Coach Travis Owen Thoughts
"So far, we've gotten off to a slow start, but that can happen in sports and as we touch up on some things, I have no doubt we will continue to get better. We have lots of good things happening, just need to put them together."

What's Next
The Golden Eagles will travel to Minot next weekend to take on both Northern State and Bemidji State on Saturday. First pitch with NSU is set for 7 A.M., on Saturday.
