Minnesota Crookston Women's Basketball Treks to Minot State and UMary for Final NSIC Weekend of 2021

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team will look to end 2021 on a good note as they hit the road to take on Minot State Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and UMary Saturday, Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles come into the weekend with a 1-10 (0-5 NSIC) mark.

ENDING 2021
The UMN Crookston women's basketball team will look to end 2021 on a good note as they hit the road to take on Minot State Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and UMary Saturday, Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles come into the weekend with a 1-10 (0-5 NSIC) mark.

DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE
The Golden Eagles have the seventh-ranked defense in all of the NSIC as they have limited teams 63.5 points per game this season.
 
UMN Crookston has only given up over 70 points four times this season. Their opponents come in shooting 40.7 percent on the season. UMN Crookston has really defended the arc well as opponents are hitting at just a 28.8 percent clip this season.
FRESHMAN FRAAZA
• Minnesota Crookston freshman Abi Fraaza has jumped right on to the scene this season for the Golden Eagles. The Birnamwood, Wis. native made her first career start Saturday against MSU Moorhead. Fraaza comes in averaging 10.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. She is shooting 51.9 percent from the field this season. Fraaza tallied a season-high 18 points against MSU Moorhead Saturday.

POST PLAY

• UMN Crookston senior Kylie Post has been a staple in the Golden Eagle line-up for the last four years. She will look to cap off her career with a strong senior season. Post is coming off a career-high 27 points, as she went 12-of-17 from the field last Tuesday versus Bemidji State. Post is averaging 10.0 points per game and shooting 53.7 percent from the field. Post has 684 career points, 278 rebounds, and 154 career assists.

BOXED OUT BY FOX

Bren Fox returns for her fourth year in the Golden Eagle uniform. She is a redshirt junior this year and the 6-3 native of Norwood Young America, Minn., is averaging 7.9 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game. Fox had a season-high 17 points earlier this season against Chaminade. She notched eight points and eight rebounds last week versus Bemidji State. She will look to make an impact this weekend.

FINDING HER TEAMMATES

• Junior Emma Carpenter leads the team this season with 2.6 assists per game for the Golden Eagles. Carpenter had a strong week last week as she had 3.3 assists per tilt. She also was better from the field as she tallied 8.3 points per game, including a season-high 11 points versus MSU Moorhead Saturday.

NEWCOMERS

• UMN Crookston has four newcomers on the 2021-22 roster. The Golden Eagles will look forward to seeing what Abigail Leach, Abi Fraaza, Alex Page, and Lily Orazem add to the squad this season.

TURN THE PAGE

• Minnesota Crookston freshman Alex Page made her first career start last weekend against MSU Moorhead. Page had a season-high nine points last Friday against Northern State. She comes in tallying 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
MINOT STATE
NEW COACH

• The Beavers have a new coach this season as Mike Brandt is in his first season at Minot State. He has the team off to a 4-8 (2-3 NSIC) mark. Brandt was previously an assistant coach at SMU. He is also the all-time leader in wins as a head coach at USC-Aiken.

ALL ABOUT AMBER

• Minot State's 5-11 junior forward Amber Stevahn has been the team's scoring leader thus far. Stevahn is averaging 15.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. She is shooting at a 54.1 percent clip from the field this season.

"HEAD"IN' THE SQUAD

• Minot State guard Kate Head comes in notching 10.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, but where she has even more of an impact is getting her teammates involved. Head comes in averaging 5.0 assists per game this year.

THREE-POINT SHOOTER
• Minot State's Lucy Chapman comes in shooting 45.2 percent from beyond the arc this season. Chapman is averaging 8.4 points per game for the Beavers this year.

UMary
ZANDER ZONED IN


• Megan Zander leads the Marauders this season with 11.9 points per game. She has been zoned in from beyond the arc as she is hitting at a 44.4 percent clip this season. She will be a key player to slow down this weekend.

SCHNEIDER ON THE BOARDS

• UMary's Lexie Schneider leads the team with 7.9 rebounds per game on the year. Schneider is also averaging 10.5 points per tilt.

VALUE VOIT
 
• Megan Voit enters the weekend notching 10.6 points per game. She has also been dangerous from deep as she is shooting 38.8 percent from beyond the arc on the year. Voit's season-high 20 points came earlier this season against Minot State.
