Dragons Use Big Second Half Run to Knock off Golden Eagles in NSIC Action

Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead used a huge 31-5 run midway through the second half to defeat Minnesota Crookston on Saturday afternoon in Crookston.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 4-7 (1-4 NSIC) and the Dragons improve to 8-6 (3-3 NSIC) on the season.

Minnesota Crookston would jump out to a quick 4-0 start, after a layup from Nathaniel Powell (R-So., C, Nottingham, England) and a fade away jumper from Ethan Channel (R-Jr., G, Beaverton, Ore.)

The Dragons would score the next six points, but Brian Sitzmann (R-Sr., G, Savage, Minn.) would cash in a three to give the Golden Eagles a one point lead at 7-6.

The Golden Eagles would trail 25-21, but a Dylan Hushaw (R-So., G, Las Vegas, Nev.) jumper and an old-fashioned three-point play from Channel would give the Golden Eagles a one point lead.

Hushaw would then bury a three to give the Golden Eagles a four point lead.

MSUM would head into the halftime break up by one at 30-29.

Leonard Dixon (R-Jr., F, Demascus, Ore.) would make a shot from deep to give the Golden Eagles a two point lead.

Dixon would catch fire and would score seven straight points to help the Golden Eagles eventually stretch their lead to seven at 51-44.

From that point on, it would be all Dragons, who would use the huge second half run to pull away from the Golden Eagles and win by a final of 75-60.

Dixon led the way with 14 points and five rebounds, while Powell had a career night with 11 points and six rebounds in his first career start. Sitzmann was the third Golden Eagle in double-figures with 10.

The Golden Eagles shot 45.1 percent from the field.

It's a trip out to North Dakota next for the Golden Eagles, as they head to Minot State on Friday and UMary on Saturday. Tip-off with the Beavers is set for 5:30 P.M., from the Minot Dome.
