Minnesota Crookston Women's Basketball Signs Guard Miller from Albertville

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball program announced the signing of Emma Miller (G, 5-1, Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent. Miller adds to a strong recruiting class of in-state recruits along with Natalie Mikrot (G, 5-6, Willow River, Minn./Willow River H.S.), and Janie Tormanen (F/C, 6-0, Menahga, Minn./Menahga H.S.).

"Emma has a high energy motor and the speed to go with it," said Head Coach Mike Roysland. "Her ability to score and create is at a very high level and fun to watch! Her passion for the game is contagious to all she comes in contact with! I feel she has a chance to be an impact player immediately!"

Miller will immediately bolster the backcourt, along with Mikrot. The Golden Eagles lose two guards in the 2022 graduating class with Kylie Post (Sr., G, Corcoran, Minn.) and Kylea Praska (Sr., G, Thief River Falls, Minn.). In addition, she along with Mikrot, and Tormanen, continue a push for the staff to find the best in-state and regional talent. The Golden Eagles currently have players from Minnesota (9), Wisconsin (1), North Dakota (3), and Michigan (1).

The Golden Eagles are entering the 2021-22 season with a strong nucleus of players back from last season. Minnesota Crookston returns seven players from the 2020-21 season who played more than ten minutes per game. Minnesota Crookston is led by a senior group featuring Post, Mary Burke (F, Eveleth, Minn.), and Praska. The Golden Eagles also return Bren Fox (R-Jr., F/C, Norwood Young America, Minn.), who is in her fourth year with the team. In addition, Jes Mertens (So., G, Devils Lake, N.D.) started as a freshman and earned All-NSIC Freshman and All-NSIC Defensive honors as a freshman. Additionally, Emma Carpenter (Jr., G, Eagan, Minn.), Mattea Vetsch (R-So., G, Devils Lake, N.D.), Haylee Wheeler (So., F, Lakeville, Minn.), Eden Golliher (So., F, Iron River, Mich.), and Veronica Schwartz (Jr., G/F, Parkers Prairie, Minn.) are all back from last year's squad.

The Golden Eagles will have a great young core of players with the signing of Miller, Tormanen, and Mikrot along with this year's freshman class of Lily Orazem (Fr., G, Onamia, Minn.), Alex Page (Fr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.), and Abi Fraaza (Fr., F, Birnamwood, Wis.).

The student-athlete listed as having signed a National Letter of Intent or Offer of Admission to play women's basketball at the University of Minnesota Crookston have been verified by the Minnesota Crookston compliance office once they sign the National Letter of Intent or once the student-athlete has accepted an Offer of Admission for Minnesota Crookston.

Miller was a 2021 All-Lake Conference selection for St. Michael-Albertville H.S. She earned 2021 All-State Honorable Mention accolades. Miller was a 2020 All-Lake Conference Honorable Mention pick. Miller also has competed in softball for St. Michael-Albertville H.S. Miller scored 26 points in a win over Maple Grove H.S. March 23, 2021. She had 21 points versus Elk River H.S. March 26, 2021.
She is the daughter of Colleen and Chuck Miller. Miller plans to major in health sciences at UMN Crookston.
