Crookston, Minn. – The University of Jamestown scored three goals in the first 11 minutes of the game to defeat the University of Minnesota Crookston 6-3 in Hockey action at the Crookston Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
The win for the Jimmies pushes their record to 2-3-0 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-1-0 on the season.
It was a quick start for the Jimmies, who took all of 1:19 into the game to get a puck past Golden Eagle goaltender
Jake Sumner (So., G, Alta Loma, Calif.) as Kirwin Johnson found the back of the net from the left slot.
Dylan Borseth (Jr., F, Williston, N.D.) would score his first career Golden Eagle goal on the power play with a beautiful cross-ice feed from
Casey Kallock (Sr., D, Alvarado, Minn.) to knot the score up at one.
The Jimmies would score the next two goals, including a Christian Jarmusz goal to make it 3-1, which would pull Sumner from the game.
Braden Schmitz (Fr., G, Devils Lake, N.D.) would enter the game.
Kallock would get the Golden Eagles within one after taking a beautiful pass from
Nikolai Rajala (Fr., F, Colleraine, Minn.) and find the back of the net to make it 3-2.
In the second period, both teams would see a lot of chances, but couldn't find the back of the net. That was until eight minutes left in the second period when Rajala would score one of the best goals you will ever see. The freshman was behind the Jimmy net when he picked up the puck on his stick and scored it lacrosse style over the left shoulder of Samuel Potter. The goal got the Sports Center on their feet.
The Golden Eagles took seven penalties on the day and it came back to hurt them in the fourth penalty of the second period as Hunter Maximnuk would find the back of the net with .2 seconds remaining in the second period.
That goal would turn out to be the game winning goal, as the Jimmies would score two third period goals to defeat the Golden Eagles, 6-3.
In his first career game, Rajala collected a goal and two assists for three points on the night, while Kallock collected two and Borseth had one. Kallock leads the team with four points through two games on the season.
Schmitz was good once again, making 29 saves on 32 shots, but he did pick up the loss in net to move to 1-1-0 on the season.
