Minnesota Crookston Hockey Opens Home Slate Against UND Club Team

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston ACHA hockey team will open up their 2021 home slate Mon., Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. against the University of North Dakota club team.
The Golden Eagles are 1-1 on the season after getting off to a great start with a 5-3 victory over University of Jamestown Sat., Jan. 9. UMN Crookston battled in their second game, getting out to a 2-0 lead, but ultimately fell 7-4 to the Jimmies Sun., Jan. 10.

At this time, the University of Minnesota Crookston is not allowing fans at the game. You can watch the game online and also follow live stats.

Scouting Minnesota Crookston
Minnesota Crookston has been led in their return to the ice by Casey Kallock (D, East Grand Forks, Minn.) with two goals and three assists. Cam Olstad (F, Grand Forks, N.D.) has chipped in two goals and one assist. Brandon Boetcher (F, Crookston, Minn.) and Tyler Zahradka (F, Grand Forks, N.D.) have added two goals, while Josh Nelson (D, East Grand Forks, Minn.) has chipped in two assists.
In goal, Jake Sumner (G, Alta Loma, Calif.) comes in with a 5.00 goals against average with 51 saves and a .836 saves percentage.

Minnesota Crookston is in their first season under Head Coach Steve Johnson, who is a University of North Dakota. He played for the UND Division I team, helping his squad to a National Championship. Johnson has been a great junior hockey coach, leading teams to two Clark Cup titles and earning three USHL Coach of the Year honors.

The Golden Eagles have a very local flavor for their return to the ice. Minnesota Crookston has players from Crookston, East Grand Forks, Grand Forks, Baudette, and Thief River Falls.

Scouting the UND ACHA Team
The UND club team, Grant McDonald tallied eight goals and 14 assists during the 2019-20 season for the Fighting Hawks. Jackson Bellerud comes to UND after scoring 12 goals and notching 16 assists last season at Fargo Davies High School.
In goal, Bryan Bresina posted a 3.92 goals against average last season with a .898 saves percentage for the Fighting Hawks.
