CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball program is set to play 11 games over the next two weeks at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Golden Eagles will travel across the Sunshine State as they will play in five cities over their 12 days in Florida.

The Golden Eagles come into the tournament with a 1-2 mark after playing three games against Pittsburg State University Feb. 14-16 in Pittsburg, Kan. Minnesota Crookston is batting .277 on the 2020 season. The Golden Eagles have been propelled by Scott Finberg (Sr., 3B, Stillwater, Minn.), who is batting .400 with two runs scored, two doubles, one home run and three RBIs. Landyn Swenson (Sr., OF, Devils Lake, N.D.) comes in hitting .400. He scored two runs during the season-opening series in Pittsburg, Kan. Will Zimmerman (Sr., Park River, N.D.) is hitting .300 from his lead-off spot after scoring three runs, with a double, and one RBI. Brock Reller (Jr., OF, Grand Forks, N.D.) comes in batting .300 with two runs scored, one triple, one home run, and two RBIs.

On the mound, the Golden Eagles come into Florida with a 2.52 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 11 walks. Conner Richardson (So., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.) had an outstanding first start against the Gorillas. Richardson has a 0.00 ERA with one strikeout and one walk. Out of the bullpen, Esten Beneda (R-Sr., RHP, Lankin, N.D.) has a 0.00 ERA in 0.2 innings with two strikeouts. Jayden Grover (Sr., RHP, Cooperstown, N.D.) comes into Florida with a 0-0 mark and a 3.60 ERA in five innings of work. Grover has five strikeouts with just walks on the 2020 season.

The Golden Eagles will open up the RussMatt Invitational with a doubleheader Mon., Feb. 23 at 2 and 4:30 p.m. at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. The Pioneers opened up the season at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Sunday. Point Park competes in NAIA.

Point Park went 32-17 during the 2019 slate. The Pioneers return Ed Pfluger, who hit .366 with 28 runs scored, 14 doubles, eight home runs, and 39 RBIs. Pfluger displayed power with a .656 slugging percentage in 2019. Luis Mujica returns after batting .366 last season with 14 runs scored, 13 doubles, two home runs, and 24 RBIs.

On the bump, Point Park returns Christian Negron, who went 5-0 with a 2.12 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched with 37 strikeouts and 18 walks. Out of the bullpen, Ruben Ramirez leads the way after going 2-0 with a 2.23 ERA in 36.1 innings pitched with four strikeouts.

Minnesota Crookston will head toward the Atlantic Ocean on Tues., Feb. 24 as they take on Florida Tech at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field in Melbourne, Fla. First pitch will be at 5 p.m. C.T. The Panthers have opened up the 2020 slate with a 4-8 mark. Florida Tech has been held to a .237 batting average on the season. They are led by Raul Quintero, who is batting .381 with eight runs scored, three doubles, and two RBIs. Brett Parrish comes in batting .313 with nine runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, and six RBIs.

On the mound, the Panthers look to Boris Villa with a 1-1 mark and a 2.70 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched with 18 strikeouts and seven walks. Out of the bullpen, Andrew Dunham leads the way with a 0.00 ERA in six innings pitched over four appearances with four strikeouts and three walks. Minnesota Crookston will take on Florida Southern College Wed., Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. C.T. at Henley Field in Lakeland, Fla. The Mocs are coming in with a 9-4 mark. Florida Southern is guided by Alan Burnsed with a .333 batting average with nine runs scored, five home runs and seven RBIs. Zach Scott comes in with a .327 batting average with eight runs scored and eight RBIs.

Florida Southern's pitching staff is propelled by J.J. Niekro, who is 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA with 24 strikeouts to just eight walks. The Golden Eagles will play Rockhurst out of Kansas City, Mo., Thurs., Feb. 27 at 2:30 p.m. C.T. Minnesota Crookston will face the Hawks at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. Rockhurst has started off the 2020 season with a 2-4 mark after going 12-37 last season. The Hawks are guided by Joe Specht, who is batting .400 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Tommy Kraus comes in with a .391 batting average with three runs scored, two doubles, and five RBIs.
