Minot, N.D.—The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team used effective pitching in game one and clutch hitting in game two to sweep Minot State and the University of Mary.
The Golden Eagles continue their best start in program history, improving to 6-4 on the season.
Game One
In game one, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick start, scoring a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from
Malia Pula (Sr., UT, Gilroy, Calif.), scoring
Mika Rodriguez (Sr., UT, Laveen, Ariz.).
Minnesota Crookston would score three in the second inning, after a Pula single and a
Kamryn Frisk (Jr., 1B/P, Anchorage, Ak.) double, scoring two.
Three innings later, the Golden Eagles would break the game open, scoring eight runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a Rodriguez double, scoring two.
On the day, the Golden Eagles would have seven hits on the day, including two apiece from Rodriguez and Pula. Frisk,
Cassie Querry (Jr., C, Cassville, Pa.) and
Hannah Macias (So., OF, West Covina, Calif.) each collected a hit as well.
In the circle, Minnesota Crookston was led by Frisk, who allowed just four hits in four innings of work, picking up the win.
Game Two
Once again, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick start against UMary, scoring two runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, the Marauders would score three runs in the top to take a 3-2 lead.
The Golden Eagles would use power in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.
Leah Macias (So., OF, West Covina, Calif.) would hit the game tying homerun.
Querry would give the Golden Eagles the lead for good with her first career grand slam to put the Golden Eagles up 7-4, heading into the seventh, where Minnesota Crookston would close out the Marauders.
Querry was a perfect 4-4 with four RBI's from the plate on the day, leading a Golden Eagles offense that had 11 hits on the day.
Jordan Peterson (Jr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) also had two hits on the day.
Paige Pitlick (Sr., P, Jordan, Minn.) was once again outstanding in the circle, going 6.0 innings of work, while striking out a season-high 12 hitters. Frisk earned the save for the Golden Eagles.
Minnesota Crookston looks to continue their success tomorrow as they do battle with Montana State Billings and Northern State. Tipoff with MSUB is set for 9:30 a.m.
