Minnesota Crookston Falls to Minnesota Duluth on Friday Night

Crookston, Minn.—Minnesota Duluth showed why they're one of the best teams in the Central Region, defeating Minnesota Crookston, 83-59 on Friday night.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 4-21 (3-18 NSIC), while the Bulldogs improve to 22-5 (19-2 NSIC) and won their eighth straight game.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 7-0 start, which was halted by a Mary Burke (R-Fr., F, Virginia, Minn.) three from the top of the key.

The Bulldogs would extend their lead to ten, but a three from Bren Fox (So., F, Norwood Young America, Minn.) and a layup from Kylie Post (So., G, Corcoran, Minn.) cut the lead to 13-8.

The Golden Eagles would once again get buckets from Fox and Post, to head into the second quarter, down just 20-14.

The Bulldogs would prove why they are one of the best in the conference, outscoring Minnesota Crookston 21-9 in the second stanza, to take a 41-23 lead heading into the halftime break.

The Golden Eagles would come out hot in the second half, cutting the lead to 15, helped by an Alyssa Peterson (Fr., G, Menahga, Minn.) 3-point make.

UMD would take a comfortable 22 point lead into the final stanza.

Minnesota Crookston would cut the lead to 18, following a nice drive from Paige Cornale (So., G, Oak Creek, Wis.).

It wouldn't be enough however, as the Golden Eagles fell, 83-59.

The Golden Eagles were led by Fox' 15 on the night, followed by Post and Burke, who each had eight points on the night. As a team, Minnesota Crookston shot 34.5 percent from the field and just 20 percent from behind the arc.

Minnesota Crookston ends the regular season tomorrow night, as they host St. Cloud State for a 3:30 p.m., tip from Lysaker Gymnasium. It is also senior day, as Paige Weakley (Sr., G, Kearney, Mo.), Amber Schoenicke (Sr., F, Marshall, Wis.) and Stephanie McWilliams (Sr., G, Grand Forks, N.D.) will each be honored.
