St. Cloud, Minn.—After getting swept a day ago, Minnesota Crookston was able to flip the scrip this afternoon, defeating William Jewell College 6-2 and Viterbo (Wis.), 9-6.
With the two wins on the day, the Golden Eagles improve to 4-4 on the season.
Game One
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, after an RBI single from
Cassie Querry (Jr., C, Cassville, Pa.) and a fielder's choice from
Darian Pancirov (So., 1B/P, Las Vegas, Nev.), which drove in
Mika Rodriguez (Sr., UT, Laveen, Ariz.). The Golden Eagles would lead 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
The Cardinals would answer with two runs in the fourth inning to knot things up at two.
Minnesota Crookston would take over and score four straight runs, with a pair of two RBI hits.
Alina Avalos (Fr., 1B/P, Riverside, Calif.) drove in the go-ahead runs with a two RBI double.
Malia Pula (Sr., UT, Gilroy, Calif.) followed up Avalos with a two RBI single in the next inning to put the game away for good. The Golden Eagles would win 6-2.
As a team, the Golden Eagles had ten hits on the day, including Pula's three hits.
Hannah Macias (So., OF, West Covina, Calif.) had her first multi-hit performance of the season, finishing the day, 2-3.
Paige Pitlick (Sr., P, Jordan, Minn.) went the distance, allowing five hits, while striking out five and allowing two walks. Pitlick earned her second win of the season.
Game Two
In game two of the day and final of the five games for the Golden Eagles, the bats came alive.
The V-Hawks scored the first two runs of the game, both coming in the bottom of the first.
Samantha Proctor (Sr., C, Champlin, Minn.) tied the game at two, with a two-run homerun, scoring Pula. The homerun was the first of the season for the senior catcher.
Viterbo would answer right back with two runs, to regain their two run lead.
Much like they did the first time they trailed by two, the Golden Eagles would once again answer. Rodriguez started the rally with a solo homerun, her first of the season. The Golden Eagles would take the lead for good following a
Gabriella Blomdahl (Fr., OF, Duluth, Minn.) RBI single.
Minnesota Crookston would score four more runs, to defeat the V-Hawks, 9-6.
The Golden Eagles tied their season-high with 13 hits, including Pula, who finished with four hits on the day. Querry also had three hits on the day. Proctor had a season-high three RBI's. The Golden Eagles left 11 runners on base.
Kamryn Frisk picked up her first win of her Golden Eagle career, going 6.2 innings, allowing 13 hits and four runs, while walking just two.
The Golden Eagles are back in action next weekend once again in Minot and the Minot Dome. First pitch between Minnesota Crookston and Minot State is set for 10 a.m., next Saturday morning.
