Golden Eagles Fall in Heart-Breaking Fashion to NSIC Foe Bemidji State

St. Cloud, Minn.—Bemidji State scored five straight runs, including a run in the bottom of the 8th inning to defeat Minnesota Crookston, 6-5, inside the Husky Dome on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Beavers improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-2 on the season.

The Golden Eagles started fast, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning, after Jordan Peterson (Jr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) scored on a wild pitch. Leah Macias (So., OF, West Covina, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly, which brought in Malia Pula (Sr., UT, Gilroy, Calif.), to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.

The Beavers would answer with a run in the bottom of the second, to cut the Golden Eagles lead to just one run, at 2-1.

Golden Eagle fans would see a glimpse of a special future, as two freshman got some big hits. Gabriella Blomdahl (Fr., OF, Duluth, Minn.) grounded out to third, which brought in Alyssa Stillman (Fr., SS/2B, Hortonville, Wis.). Stillman would later drive in two, with her first career home run, to put the Golden Eagles up 5-1.

The Beavers were able to string some runs together and score one run apiece in the bottom of the fifth, sixth and seventh. Bemidji State was able to walk-off in the bottom of the 8th on a walk-off single.

As a team, the Golden Eagles piled up seven hits, led by two each from Peterson and Stillman. The Golden Eagles left 13 runners on the base paths.

Kamryn Frisk (Jr., P/1B, Anchorage, Ak.) pitched well, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out three in 4.0 innings pitched. Frisk picked up the loss.

The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow morning for two games against Northwestern (Iowa) and St. Cloud State. First pitch with Northwestern is set for 9 a.m.
