DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team fell 7-0 to University of Minnesota Duluth Sat., Feb. 9 at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 (0-1 NSIC) with Saturday's loss to Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs improve to 4-0 with the victory.
Minnesota Crookston made improvements in singles where they were able to take games away from a strong UMD program. At No. 1 singles,
Reanne Erickson (Sr., Fargo, N.D.) won a pair of games in two sets against Elsa Erickson, but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 3 slot,
Hanna Ruckheim (Jr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) took two games off former Crookston Pirate Ally Tiedemann, but was defeated 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 2 spot,
Ashley Smith (Fr., Staples, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Natalie Cahill. At No. 4 singles,
Diane Cilengi (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Isabel Thiner. At the No. 5 spot,
Hannah Zhao (Sr., Guangzhou, China) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Arielle Emerson. At No. 6 singles,
Karli Renney (So., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Sarah Will.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Erickson and Smith was upended by Erickson and Megan Anderson, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Ruckheim and Cilengi were defeated 6-0 by Thiner and Tiedemann. At the No. 3 slot, Zhao and Renney fell 6-0 to Emerson and Will.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action Sun., Feb. 10 at 9 a.m. against St. Cloud State University.
