Minnesota Crookston Fights Hard in Third Set; Falls to No. 9 Northern State on Friday Night

Box Score Aberdeen, S.D.—Another week, another ranked team for Minnesota Crookston volleyball, who traveled to Aberdeen, S.D., for a date with No. 9 Northern State.
 
The Wolves came into this game with the Golden Eagles winners of six out of their past eight matches.
 
Northern State used a dominant first and second set to beat the Golden Eagles in three sets (13-25, 11-25, 21-25).

Set One
Minnesota Crookston got off to a quick start after an attack error from Northern State made it 1-0 Minnesota Crookston.
 
The Golden Eagles would tie the game at three after a duo block from Porsha Porath (So., OH Windom, Minn.) and Kate Sikkink (R-Sr., MH, St. Charles, Minn.).
 
The Wolves would go on a run and force a Minnesota Crookston timeout with the score 12-6 in favor of the Wolves.
 
The Golden Eagles would cut the lead to nine at 18-9 after a Porath kill from the left side.
 
The Golden Eagles would continue to try and chip away, but the Wolves would go on to win set number one 25-13.
 
Set Two
In set two, it was the Golden Eagles who got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 5-4 lead, helped by kills from Sydney Kruisselbrink (Jr., S, Rochester, Minn.) and Sikkink.
 
The Wolves would take the lead for the first time in the second set at 6-5, but Deaira Gresham (Jr., OH, Maplewood, Minn.) tied things up at six.
 
NSU would score three in a row to force a Golden Eagle timeout.
 
The Golden Eagles would use Porath to try and claw back in to the second set and she made it 15-10 Wolves with a big kill just inside the line.
 
The Wolves would be helped by three service aces from Fargo, N.D., native Jaiden Langlie to take control of the second set to win number two 25-11.
 
Set Three
This time, it was the Wolves who jumped out to the fast start, jumping out to a 3-1 lead, but Minnesota Crookston would fight back.
 
The Golden Eagles would tie things at four, helped out by a service error and an attack error from NSU.
 
The score would be tied at five after a Kruisselbrink kill and also at six after a Porath kill.
 
The Wolves would try to pull away, but the Golden Eagles were scrappy and cut the Wolves lead to 11-9, before the Wolves would score six out of the next eight points to take a 17-11 lead.
 
Much like they have all set, the Golden Eagles would show fight and cut the lead to three at 19-16 helped by a kill from Alyssa Thomas (Sr., DS, Marion, Iowa).
 
The Wolves would score the next two to force the final Golden Eagle timeout with the score 21-16 advantage of the Wolves.
 
The Wolves would fight off the Golden Eagles and win set three, 25-21.
 
The Golden Eagles travel to Moorhead, Minn., for a match with the Dragons of MSUM tomorrow night. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
