Minot, N.D.—The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team fell on the road to Minot State Sunday afternoon, 4-0.
Minnesota Crookston was looking to continue the strong play they showed on Friday afternoon against the University of Mary, that saw the Golden Eagles tie the Marauders.
The Beavers had other ideas, however, as they would score two goals in both the first, and second half to secure the NSIC victory.
Sofia Lewis would have herself a day for MSU. Lewis would score not one, not two, but three goals on the afternoon. Her first came on an assist from Haley Berryman, who crossed it to the box for Lewis, and Lewis would do the rest. That goal came in the fifth minute for a 1-0 Beaver lead.
Lewis would score almost 15 minutes later who got the ball on the left hash, and sniped the ball past Golden Eagle goalkeeper
Athena DiMario Done. (So., Windsor, Ontario). DiMario Done would finish with eight saves on the day.
That Beavers would head into the halftime break with a two goal lead at 2-0. Lewis would finish off her hat trick with an assist from Andrea Franco, and Lewis scored a goal similar to her second goal. Unlike her second goal, Lewis would score this goal from 15 yards out. That goal would make it 3-0 early in the second half.
The Beavers would add a late goal from Jannely Rangel to make it 4-0, which would end up being the final score.
The Beavers would be led by Lewis who finished with seven shots on the day. Andrea Franco, and Haley Berryman would add an assist.
For the Golden Eagles, they were led by
Shonali Pierce (So., Streamwood, Ill.), and
Jessica Scott (Sr. Post Falls, Idaho), who had one shot each on the day.
Minot State outshot Minnesota Crookston 21-2. Minot State had two more corner kicks than the Golden Eagles, with an advantage of 4-2.
With the loss, Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-9-2 overall, and 1-6-2 in the NSIC. The Beavers move to 6-4-2 overall, and 4-4-1 in the NSIC with the victory.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action next weekend with two home matches against Minnesota State Mankato, and Concordia-St. Paul. The match against the Mavericks is set for Friday afternoon at 1 p.m., while the match with the Golden Bears is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
