Crookston, Minn.—The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team fell to Minnesota State University-Mankato 8-0 Friday afternoon in Crookston.
The Mavericks proved to the Golden Eagles why they are ranked number 22 in Division II. MSU-Mankato would score three goals in the first half, and capped that half off with a five goal output in the second half.
Alesha Duccini got the Mavericks going with a goal at 9:02 of the first half with a goal from inside the box. Morgan Cottew and Dakota Wendell each scored goals in the first half to make it 3-0.
After the halftime break, it was all Mavericks, who played 19 players off of the bench. Wendell would score her second goal of the afternoon and ninth of the season with a snipe off of a turnover over the shoulder of Golden Eagles goaltender
Athena DiMario Done. (So., Windsor, Ontario)
Morgan Cottew would also add her second of the day, and sixth of the season with an assist from Morgan Seemuth. Caitlin Brown, Jenny Vetter and Brooke Valiukas would each score a goal in the second half for the 8-0 win.
DiMario Done got the start for Minnesota Crookston and made six saves on the afternoon.
Olivia Puttin (Jr., Rogers, Minn.) would relieve DiMario Done midway through the second half stopping two Maverick shots in the half.
Offensively, the Golden Eagles were led by junior
Lindsey Daml (North Pole, Alaska) who finished the day with two shots, one of which was on goal.
Tyler Goodwin (Fr., Covina, Calif.),
Jessica Scott (Sr., Post Falls, Idaho),
Jessica Withrow (So., Gardnerville, Nev.),
Maggie Peterson (So., Princeton, Minn.) and
Kayla Stangeland (Jr., Mitchell, S.D.) each had one shot on the day for the Golden Eagles.
With the loss, Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-10-2 overall, and 1-7-2 in NSIC play. The Mavericks improve to 11-1-1 overall, and 9-0-1 in the NSIC on the season.
Minnesota Crookston will be back in action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., with a match against the Concordia University-St. Paul Golden Bears. Before the match, we will celebrate the duo of seniors who have donned the maroon and gold for four seasons,

Jessica Scott.
