Northern State has strong second half in 3-0 win over Golden Eagles

Crookston, Minn.—Northern State University defeated the University of Minnesota Crookston 3-0 in women's soccer on Friday afternoon in NSIC action.

It was the final home game of the careers for seniors Jessica Scott (Post Falls, Idaho) and Aimee Silva (Yakima, Wash.). Those two looked to get a win at home on the final weekend of the regular season.

Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, the Wolves were in a heated race for the final playoff spot in the NSIC tournament. Northern State scored early on in the first half as Shianne Rosselli got a crosser in the box from Stephany Estrada and snuck a header past the outstretched arms of Golden Eagle goalkeeper Olivia Puttin (Jr. Rogers, Minn.).

Northern State went into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead. The Wolves would add on two more goals midway through the second half just 42 seconds apart. Darian Leschewski would score off of a corner kick by Teya Trujillo to make it 2-0 Wolves. Rosselli would add her second of the night, as she took a pass in the box and bounced past Puttin to make it 3-0 Wolves.

That goal turned out to be the last one in this match, as Northern State leaves Crookston with a 3-0 victory.

Puttin stopped six of the nine Wolves shots that were on net, while Wolves' goalkeeper Jessica Otto made seven saves on the day.

Maggee Hodgdon (Fr. Newberg, Ore.) led the way in shots off the bench for the Golden Eagles with four. Jessica Withrow (So. Gardnerville, Nev.) finished the day with three shots. Scott, Maggie Peterson (So. Princeton, Minn.), Kayla Stangeland (Jr. Mitchell, S.D.), Lindsey Daml (Jr. North Pole, Alaska) and Vanessa Shelton (So. Tacoma, Wash.) each recorded one shot on the day.

For NSU, Rosselli finished the day with nine shots, while Leschewsky finished the day with three. Catherine Nakae, Emily Reiten, Teya Trujillo and Stephany Estrada recorded two shots.

The Golden Eagles fall to 1-14-2 overall and 1-11-2 in NSIC play. With the victory, the Wolves improve to 9-7-1 overall, and 7-6-1 in the NSIC.
