Early Second Half Goal Leads MSU Moorhead Past Golden Eagles 1-0 in Highway 75 Rivalry Rock Game

MOORHEAD, Minn. – A goal in the early minutes of the second half set Minnesota State University Moorhead to a 1-0 victory in the season finale against University of Minnesota Crookston. The win keeps the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock in Moorhead, Minn., for the third-consecutive season.

The Golden Eagles conclude the 2018 season with a 1-15-2 (1-12-2 NSIC) mark. The Dragons end the season with a 4-13 (4-11 NSIC) mark. The game was played Sun., Oct. 28 at the MSUM Soccer Field in Moorhead, Minn.

MSU Moorhead put in the only goal of the game as Kylee Billings put the ball into the back of the net off a Hannah Loss assist in the 47th minute.

Golden Eagle goalkeeper Athena DiMario Done (So., GK, Windsor, Ontario) kept a blank sheet for the first 45 minutes and the last 43 minutes of Sunday's contest. She notched 11 saves on the game.

Minnesota Crookston finished the day with five shots on goal. Jessica Scott (Sr., D/F, Post Falls, Idaho) tallied a team-high five shots and three shots on goal on the day, her final collegiate soccer game. Kiya Gere (Fr., D, Vancouver, Wash.) and Maggee Hodgdon (Fr., F, Newberg, Ore.) also notched shots on goal for the Golden Eagles.

Minnesota Crookston had nine shots overall on the game compared to 23 for the Dragons. Only 12 of the 23 shots were on net for MSU Moorhead.

The Dragons looked to Billings with four shots on goal, while Jensen Odegaard notched three shots on goal. Jessica Dallman and Tomoni Nishihara tallied two shots on goal apiece.

Kayleigh Sedlacek picked up the shutout for MSU Moorhead with five saves for the contest.

The game was the sixth iteration of the Battle for the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock, which was instituted in 2013. Minnesota Crookston has claimed the Rivalry Rock twice, while MSU Moorhead has won the game four times. It is the sixth game that Coach Joe Alianiello for the Golden Eagles has been a part of. Dragon coach Christie (Chappell) Kopietz is a former Minnesota Crookston soccer player. She is in her third season leading the MSU Moorhead program.

Sunday was the final game for the Golden Eagles on the 2018 season. They had a young squad on the 2018 season that boasted just two seniors in Aimee Silva (Sr., D/MF, Yakima, Wash.) and Scott. Minnesota Crookston has 21 players eligible to return for the 2019 campaign.
