Crookston, Minn.- The Golden Eagle soccer team will play a split schedule this weekend as they travel to Minot, N.D. for a Friday evening NSIC match at Minot State University then return home for another conference match, on Sunday, where they will host the University of Mary.
Crookston will look to follow up on a strong, second half, defensive effort from last Sunday where they shut down an Upper Iowa team that came out firing in the first half of play. Frosh goalkeeper,
Athena DiMario Done (Windsor, Ontario) played in the second period where she made a pair of great saves, and has not allowed a goal through 90 minutes played in her freshman campaign.
Friday, September 22 - 7:00 pm at Minot State
The Beavers bring a 2-3-1 overall record to the Friday night match, 1-2 in NSIC play. Despite a losing record, Minot State has outscored their opponents 9-4 and outshot the competition 108-72. In their previous game, last Sunday, the Beavers dropped a conference game, 2-1, to Augustana University.
MSU has been led by the play of their goalkeeper Erin Rafferty (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) who has played every minute in goal and has a .64 goals against average. Sofia Lewis (Fr., Minot, N.D.) and Jordyn Cook (Fr., Long Beach, Calif.) have led the Minot offensive effort as Lewis has scored three goals while Cook has scored twice.
Sunday, September 24 – 1:00 vs. University of Mary
The Marauders enter the weekend with a record of 3-1-1, 1-1-1 in conference games. Coming off a 0-0 tie, last Sunday, with Wayne State College the Marauders have been solid defensively, only allowing three goals through the five games played.
Senior goalkeeper Hannah Smith (Sacramento, Calif.) has been a big reason for the strong defensive effort as she has a goals against average of .56. Forward Caylin Cathey (Billings, Mont.) has been the lone standout in the offensive half of the field as she has scored three goals and assisted on another.
